: Synthetic oil in Allison
RWMjr84 06-15-2007, 09:37 PM Hey guys first time posting. LOve the site get lots of good information but i was just wondering, I have a 2004.5 LLy and i have about 60,000 miles on it. Is it to late to switch to synthetic fluid in my transmission or do the same rules not apply to the transmission as they do the engine?
addicted 06-15-2007, 10:16 PM Go ahead and switch it over. It's perfectly ok. I had 53,000 on mine when I switch over.
Welcome to DP
03LB-7dmax 06-16-2007, 01:14 AM Go w/transynd,a little $$$$$ but well worth the money
sonnytimes 06-16-2007, 05:57 AM I am wondering what makes transynd so much better?
james245 06-16-2007, 08:13 AM I run amsoil in all or family vehicles front to back it is great the motors I have run it in and inspected after 100,000 miles still have cross hatches in cylinders. A TRANSMISSION can be converted at anytime but an engine will sometimes have problems with leaks if converted after 50,000 miles or more. Soot build up is the only problem with diesel engine and when to change. The trans will never need changing again after amsoil. I have scorched my amsoil in dodge trans but still got 100,000 miles between rebuilds and 100,000 miles is good pulling 24,000 pounds in Georgia. I got 10 gallons and a deep pan wich worked out just about right on mine.
drsorter 06-16-2007, 11:23 AM anyone not using synthetic is asking for a breakdown and $$$$$ down the road for $100 you can have a lifetime of worry free driving and if its amsoil a warranty that the oil will not cause a breakdown (95%) of tranny breakdowns

The have 'addatives" that make the clutches hold better than any other brand
KEVINL 06-16-2007, 04:29 PM I just switched to transynd today and it seems to shift better
Heath 06-16-2007, 07:20 PM There is also AMSOIL's TorqueDrive, an exact replica of the Transynd, and it saves you 1/2 the money too:)

Its not as good as Transynd.
Heath 06-16-2007, 08:45 PM Here's the comparison. Wonder who determined it wasn't as good?

Chev2500HD 06-16-2007, 09:35 PM Just used the hoots method to flush all the old fluid, only changed the Allison spin on when it was at 5000kms and never had the ATF change since new. Now i am running Amsoil TD, shifting performance has greatly improved. early morning 1st and 2nd shift doesnt jerk anymore. Going to be changing the Spin-on every 8000kms now.

What rules are you referring to? It is never too late to switch to synthetic. I don't care what anyone says.

you can't count. I paid $30.68 a gallon for transynd from my friendly Allison dealer
jeffroski 06-17-2007, 12:19 AM I choose not to use amsoil, I have found it has delivered less than spectacular results. I would use the Allison transmission fluid. My previous vehicle didn't fare well with Amsoil, heads consistently leaked; and I used the Amsoil 15W-40 oil in my duramax and found it was noiser and lost gas mileage with it. Just my two cents though.

I paid $166. for a five at an Ally dealer. AMSOIL is $ 83 for a five?
Not starting a P-ssing contest here. Ally web site recommends Transynd. This is why I went with it. Changed using HOOTs. Noticed a difference instantly.
bo799 06-17-2007, 09:13 AM AMSOIL is not approved by Allison.

Maybe one should verify before posting. Sorry about that, I had another trans. fluid on the mind. It does run cheaper, mayber around $30 for the five gallon.
That'll learn me:)...and if you do have an extended ally warranty, you do need the Transynd.

mgmack 06-17-2007, 12:06 PM I got 5 gallons of transynd for about $200 from Merchant's automotive and did the drain and refill method at 58,000 miles and I already can feel a difference in the firmness of the shifts. I will do the drain and refill two more times at 10,000 mile intervals to bring the percentage of transynd in my allison up to around 80-90%.
I wish I had invested in transynd earlier. Eventually I will upgrade to a Suncoast IV and run transynd exclusively.
Railer24 06-17-2007, 12:34 PM theres no way to get all the tranny fluid out without having a shop flush it right.
I just had a shop flush all the old ATF out and change both filters and put new ATF inside, wish I would have thought to put Transynd in instead.
Had 102K miles when this was done. Now at about 109K.
Is there a way to flush the system that I'm not aware of. So I could do it at home?

Heintzelman Truck Center, 2424 John Young Pkwy, Orlando, FL This place is an Ally, Ford and Detroit Diesel Dealer. Most Ally dealers in the Orlando area were close in price. Checking the receipt it was 167.26+ 6% for the Governor. {33.40per gal + tax}
I thought it was strange a Ford , Detroit, Ally dealer. Maybe GM is going to buy Ford:D.

Mr. D 06-17-2007, 07:27 PM Aside from those who are deeply in love with Amsoil or Transynd, is there anything wrong with an off the self synthetic like Mobil 1 AFT?? Can the newest version of Mobil 1 AFT be used in an '06 6 speed Allison. I used it in my '02 Allison with no problems at all!
Costing more is not clear proof of being a superior product! It can mean there are more people in the chain needing to make a profit from the sale? I don't go to Amway for soap to wash my truck!! :D:

I'm not in love with any of them. Check the Allison web site. Then use what you wish.

sledman 06-20-2007, 11:54 AM So, where is the best place to buy Transynd online?
072500hd6.6 06-27-2007, 10:50 PM would this change incress my gas mpg

I don't know if anyone could necessarily put a mileage on leaks. The only reason synthetic has rep of causing leaks is due to the fact that the engine already had a leak but the owner didn't know it because they were using dino oil that didn't penetrate good therefore not reaching the "leak" or bad seal.
Transynd is produced by Castrol. Castrol has worked extensively with Allison to produce a synthetic oil that performs the best with their transmission. I'm not saying that every other ATF is inferior to Transynd, but I believe it is the best for the Allison transmission. I just bought some yesterday from my local Allison dealer for $33.09/gallon.
DEWFPO 06-28-2007, 08:48 PM would this change incress my gas mpg nope. Dewfpo
derrickmanx1 08-02-2007, 07:07 PM Has anyone used the bully dog ATF?
Hotwater 08-02-2007, 07:30 PM There is also AMSOIL's TorqueDrive, an exact replica of the Transynd, and it saves you 1/2 the money too:)
You can buy it for 17 bucks a gallon?
Heath 08-02-2007, 09:28 PM That was a long time ago:) I had to look back, I thought I corrected myself. It's closer to 30.
Watrdawg 08-06-2007, 07:31 PM I used the Amsoil TD, 6 gallons,Donaldson filter and shipping and it cost me about the same what the Transynd would have without shipping or a filter. There wasn't a local Transynd dealer within 50 miles so I went with the Amsoil. Overall it saved me about $30.
