I've got 15.5 K and I need to change the oil. I can't remember at 7.5 K when I changed the oil last if the Change Oil indicator came on or if I just thought it was time for the change. I've got a 2006 3500 D/Max with the LT2 trim package, not quite as nice as the all the bells and whistles package. When I look in the manuals the manual says you will get the "Change Oil" indicator if your truck is so equipped. I thought they were all equipped. Is there a way to know without waiting to see if the indicator finally comes on?

What truck do you have? Do you have steering wheel controls?

Silverado 3500 2006 Crewcab Long Bed with LT2 Package, it does not have the steering wheel controls, I believe that came with the LT3 package.

The steering wheel controls are a separate option. My LT2 has them.
I never wait for the "change oil" indicator; I change mine every 5k

Ok, the question did not get answered so I'll ask another way.

Does anyone have a 2006 LBZ that does not have the Change Oil Indicator and you know for a fact that your truck does not have this function? If that is so, what do you have?

I'm pretty sure every truck has that function. I'm not sure but pretty sure. I've seen other GM vehicles that do not have the steering wheel controls but do have the "change oil" indicator. You might see if there is a RPO code for it. You will find a list of the codes in the glove box. All those numbers and letters on that sticker in there. If they aren't in the glove box, they might be on the drivers door, near the tire inflation sticker.

All trucks have this feature. Mine is an '06 with LT1 trim...no steering wheel controls. I had the dealer change the oil for break-in, then I did my first change at 5000 miles. I did not reset the oil change indicator to see when it would come on. It came on at 8600 miles and I promptly reset it. Now i just reset it every 5K when I change the oil. Haven't seen it again and I'm up to 24K miles.
