Hi everyone,I need to purchase a Chevy diesel 2500 truck to pull my boat and take me to work. However I'm limited to spending and can only afford used,so is it worth to buy a diesel with one hundred thousand miles or better on it?can I find something descent spending 23k what would you buy if you could not afford new.

The only thing I'm certain of is I want a Chevy;)

Thanks for any help you can give.

You can find a good truck with a Duramax for that. That should get you something a few years old with 60-70K miles or so, depending on cab configuration, etc.

Look for something with good service records if available, and have it looked over real good. The previous owner will make more of a difference than very high miles.

By the way, 100,000 on a Duramax is still relatively new.;)

If you find a truck and have any questions about it, this is the place to ask! Good luck.

Hey Eric, thanks allot for the help and advice.I looked at several GMs and drove a few however most dealers only have the carfax available .I know how important maint. is and I guess its a crap shoot buying used anyway just don't want to get burned. It just don't feel right buying a vehicle with that many miles one it,but like you said if its taken care of ,it will last....its going to take some looking around.I'm already have a month of looking time in this.
Im glad I found this place its already been very helpfull:hail:

Thanks again for your help and advice.

Try to find one for sale by owner instead of a stealer. I feel you can trust them more often. I am looking at a 01 with 109K, but the previous owner kept a record in the back of the manual that came with the truck. You can always take the vehicle to your mechanic and have it checked. This will be my first diesel, but so far everyone that I've talked to said 100K on a duramax is just getting it broke in. Good Luck!

The problem in this case is diesels really hold their resale value, making expensive to buy used but the get better fuel milage, ususally pulling a load vs gas, and last a lot longer. the 5.9's are godo diesels, rest of the truckll fall apart though, ford 7.3's truck and motor pretty good, d maxes are good allison trans is great.
