You should be set. Its been double din for a while. Had my 2000 stock radio replaced with a 2x din. Nothing fansy like that... but it was decent.

that is what i thought: all of the newer gm truck radios where double din. My boss has a double din navigations system like this in his 03 suburban and i am fairly sure i could take my dash off and swap it with his! but when i contacted jp customs one of the vendors on here they sent me a message like i was stupid that i thought it would fit. this is what jp customs said:

Hello, the D3 won’t work in your 02’. Your 02’ has a 1.5 din radio slot and the D3 is a 2 din. You would have to use a flip-out screen version like the AVIC-N3. We also carry these, $1450.00. This unit can also have XM as well as a backup camera and many other options.

why can some of these trucks have a double din and some not when it seems that they have the same dash????

There is a thread here somewhere on usinng the '03up dash bezel on a '99-'02 and modifying the hole to match. This thread showed a double din in there.

The install was not too bad I took the dash bezel off and the hvac controlls out. then I removed the factory radio which left the radio and hvac housing. I then drilled out the rivets that held it to the metal bracket and removed the four bolts. you have to cut and bend the metal bracket behind the radio housing, what I did was unbolt it and cut the top off in the garage and reinstalled it. the DNX 7100 will fit in the housing with out any mods, I just made brackets for it. the bezel had to be cut above and below about 1/4 I did not use the finish panel around the new unit, I then filled the sides in with filler made for plastic bumpers which is flexable. The factory radio is widder about 3/8 on both sides so this was filled and sanded primed and painted satin finish black.
