I've been running with John Kennedy's "race" chip for about four years with NO issues. The chip alone increases fuel rate from 63mm cubed @ WOT to 80mm. More than 60% throttle and transmission line pressure increases to prevent clutch slipping and reduce heat. The program is from an "F" engine so the computer isn't looking for the EGR system anymore. I have an "S" engine. I absolutely love this chip! The difference is like night and day.

Does it smoke? Sure a little. To control the smoke don't turn the injection pump up to high. Remember, to make power you need fuel and air. Stock programming just won't give enough fuel.

Cooling mods? Not yet. I don't tow. I've never seen 210*, even on the hottest days with the A/C cranking.

Charlie,
What do you mean by,"To control the smoke don't turn the injection pump up to high"? I am under the impression that that the PCM controls the IP. I have the same "Truck" you do, and I am looking for some improvements. Right now I am gettting rid of PMD bugs. When that is done I am going full 4" exhaust, and a chip has crossed my mind. I would be curious to know what you are seeing in the way of fuel mileage though.
Thanks

I think the 4" exhaust is going to be really tight. I bearly got a 3.5" in. Go with the smoothest flowing muffler you can. John Kennedy's system you can drop a tennis ball through it! The turbo really eats up the unwanted idling noise, when you jump on it it sounds sweet!

Turning up the pump? You're right, its controlled by the ECM for fuel delivery. The "chip" will deliver more fuel than stock. Now you have the fuel to the injection pump what to do with it? The timing for the injection pump can be altered. You will need a bi-directional reader as well as turning the pump oh so slightly to the driver's side. 1mm turn=1 deg. of timing. I've found that you can increase fuel management this way. -1.94*TDC is the most you can go without turning on the SES light. I personally like this setting. If the smoke is too much and its not that bad turn it back to -1.50.

After you adjust the timing you MUST increase the boost to handle the extra fuel. You also MUST have a pyrometer. While running here you can get to the melting point if you're not carefull. I drive with one eye on the pyro.

My truck is the fastest truck I've ever driven. I can keep up with a DMAX on level 3. Level 5 will leave me sucking my thumb.

Believe it or not I don't think running with high flows really decreases fuel mileage. I'm still getting almost 20 on the highway @70-75mph. Between the exhaust note and extra performance and not being able to keep my right foot still, this brings the mileage down around town.
