Ok, guy's
Went to the dealer a few minutes ago to pick up my truck after the injectors were replaced. I put the truck in gear and didn't make it out of the dealers parking lot before I heard a buzzing noise that changed with RPM & light acceleration. This noise sounds a lot like an alternator or power steering pump noise except it's not a high pitched whine, it's a buzzing or high speed tapping noise. I thought at first that the fan may be slightly hitting the fan shroud. I remember hearing something similar when I tweaked the frame on another truck 4 wheeling so bad that the fan contacted the shroud. Very similar noise.
Turned the truck around ( in their lot) and told the SM to go for a ride. Tech that did the work went for a ride and heard the noise, on the way back into the dealers lot the low coolant light comes on, the tech had a funny look on his face at that point. I asked him if he re-filled it with coolant, he assures me that he did. They took it back in the shop to check it out. I had to get back to work so I left it.
Without coolant in it and the waterpump being dry could it cause this noise problem ? -and if it did is there now damage to the pump? I've fried a water pump impeller on my mercury outboard running it dry before, it took less that 30 seconds to do the damage. We drove the truck approx 4-5 minutes while it was making this noise
My other thought was when they had every thing apart something may have gotten in the turbo causing the noise.
You guy's that have done injector replacement ----have any ideas on what could be the problem? I know for a fact that the noise wasn't there before they started on the injectors.
Waiting on that dreaded dealer phone call,,, I'll post what they have to say. I realize that noise problems are hard to locate, but what about the low coolant dash light----are they related?
