What is the exact fuction of the FSD in conjuction with the pcm?

That's a question I'd like to hear answered as well.gmctd, TDG, mdhorban and hrjack99 and some others may have the most insight on this.


I've read it closes the F sol and has some internal timing modulation.Edited by: quantum mechanic

amplifies signal from PCM high enough to operate FSol, and calculates and communicates FSol response time (CTime) to the PCM.

This is just my opinion, but, I think the reason the FSD is located within 12" of the IP, is to decrease probagation delay. The IP requires more that 10 amps, and switching from the PCM located under the dash has two problems, probagation delay, and lost of current due to wire resistance, not to mention heat generated. The FSD does modify the signal from the PCM.
