New to the forum. I have a 1982 k20 6.2 with a 3speed manual with overdrive. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing put it all back together and the clutch won't disengage. The mechanical linkage is adjusted properly and I can see the clutch fork push back the throw out bearing as I have someone depress the clutch. I have replaced the clutch on other vehicles and never had this happen. Has anyone else run into this and what was the solution?

sounds like you might've gotten the clutch disk in backwards. did that once, very careful to check now so as not to do it again!

Thanks for the reply. I have the disk facing the correct way. It was labeled "This side to engine". I was wondering if it could be a defective pressure plate or the wrong one? Has anyone ever had a bad one?

did you compare the heights of all the new items to the removed stuff. throw out bearing, clutch cover, could be the pivot fork bending or the pivot ball trying to poke thru the fork.

is your throwout bearing installed properly with the larger side towards the engine?

Did you replace the pilot brg, the one in the back of the crank. How well did the trany go back into it's place when you installed it. You may have damage the pilot brg, and now the imput shaft is stuck to it. That would feel like the clutch is not disengaging.

Thanks for the replies, I pulled the whole thing apart again and found somehow the fork got ahead of the throwout bearing. I am doing this by myself and didn't separate the transfer case from the tranny. It is very cumbersome to say the least. I am going to get someone to help me on my next attempt so I can watch the fork until I can't see it any more. I wish GM had used a two piece bellhousing so you could look up in there as you slid it together. Any Tips you guys have found to putting one of these together would be great. I will attempt again on Thursday.

if the spring that holds the fork on the pivot spring is not to worn and the spring at the end of the fork where the bearing snaps into is to worn most parts stores handle replacements . i bought one for an 84 last fall. helps alot. also i bought a adaptor for my floor jack at harbor frieght that makes it into a reasonable trans jack. what part of the country are you in maybe someone lives close by.?

Farmer thanks for the reply. Yes the fork is old. It is loose at the pivot point and loose where the throwout bearing rides. I see I can order a new one for $18. I will get one. I'm located in Middletown NY.
