: First mods to gain about 100hp/200+ ft-lb

I'm new to diesels and have done alot of reading to get up to speed with the available mods so I guess I'm looking for a quick summery. I'd like to add about 100hp and 200+ ft/lb torque to my '05. This is mainly a street truck but will be used to tow about 10,000lbs once in awhile. These gains should be in the low to mid range where the truck spends most of it's time and I won't complain about a little extra fuel mileage.

It looks like the favored tuning is between the Edge and TTS. Based on what I want, is there a major advantage of going with the Edge?

It looks like there isn't much of a benefit to changing the induction so I'll probably leave that alone so the next step will be the exhaust. I'd like a split rear system that flows good but want the truck to remain as quiet as possible (walk softly but carry a big stick! :) ).

And finally, what is the point where the intercooler and/or turbo should be upgraded?

Thanks for any info!

The edge is a box that plugs in under the hood. The TTS is a program that rewrites over the factory tune in the PCM that CANNOT be put back to stock without buying another PCM and having it programmed to your truck. The edge has a display that will give you corrected speed if you have bigger tires, egt, boost and a engine temp, trans slip %, and a couple other things. The edge for the LLY has 5 levels from 30-120hp and up to 275ft#. The TTS tuning for the LLY only has a single 50hp/100ft# program available right now. The TTS can be programmed to correct the speedo if you have bigger tires, get rid of the top speed limiter & raise engine revs.

None of the dual tailpipe exhaust systems that are available are quiet. You won't have to worry about upgrading the turbo and intercooler.

You will have quite a few more options if you hold off and wait for the other companies to produce something for the 2005 models, but the Edge seems to be the choice on this forum. It seems almost all of these performance companies squeeze out at least 90hp on their highest settings.

We should all be thankful for the amount of horsepower and torque we're getting for the price. We all know that without going internal on a gas motor, a supercharger would have to be added to compete with these diesels.

Food for thought: Evotech, a software company in Ludwigsburg, Germany, will do a computer reflash on your Lamborghini Gallardo for a gain of 15-20hp. The price: $4900

I know, if you own a Lamborghini, you won't have to worry about this cost. But holy smokes!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif

In my past experiences with the Edge product I would have to be loyal to them. It is a great box with the added features of the attitude. This keeps you from having to buy a ton of other gauges, and put them in you rline of sight like the a-pillar. The attitude makes this box adjustable to your driving style as well as monitor your truck.

As far as the air box, I like the AFE, and have seen EGT reductions which I needed. SO dont rule it out. As far as exhaust, anytime you mess with factory specs you will get a decible increase. But if its too loud your too old I say. Can't wait for my Bull Haulers to be installed.

Hope you read this info. This site is full of good stuff and great people that will help in your decision.

Good info guys! I'll probably go with the Edge with Attitude. Is there a popular place to mount this inside the vehicle that keeps it easy to use but isn't the most obvious thing in the truck?

As for the exhaust, I know how that goes with sound but I can wish for something quiet. To bad Corsa doesn't have something for these. They usually have no in cab resonance.

And damn, that Lamborghini programming is expensive!!!

I have a Magna flow muffler on mine and it is pretty quiet with hardly any drone !!! Pm me if you need more info. Edited by: FASTOYS

You could add the exhaust upgrade for $4450 (15-20hp) and the airbox upgrade for $4350 (5-10hp) to the computer reflash on your Lambo, and for the tidy sum of $13700 you'll have a total average gain of 42hp....

I have the Banks exhaust on mine, and I really like it. But, it is louder than stock when accelerating. Once you're cruising at 65mph, you can't really tell their is an aftermarket exhaust on the truck. I was a little worried about it being too loud before I installed it, but it turned out to be just the right amount of rumble. When holding a speed of 54-58mph in fifth gear, there is a slight drone in the cab. I always drive over 60mph anyway, so it's not even an issue for me. If I had to do it over again, I would buy the Banks again, but in truth, I have not tried the other systems out. Good luck.

I have the Banks also. The only time I can hear mine is when the windows are open or I'm alongside an embankment or wall. It's clean and easy to install. I paid around $960 which included the "Cat" killer and K&N filter which I will sell you cheap(see air filter study thread). Oh, I like the 5" polished SS tip that comes with it. No, I didn't put on the Banks Stickers.......

Scotty, I'm suprised that you didn't pitch the 6 Gun to him. Those Juice Guys got you feeling snake bit? I still can't make up my mind which tuner to get and I've had my truck a year! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

on edit: I'm a little concerned that I may be one the unlucky ones suffering stalls and what not with the JuiceEdited by: Gruber

The reason Lambo stuff is $$$ is because there aren't enough of them to make a profit on unless you charge $$$. Porsche, Viper, etc, as the numbers of vehicles go down, the price goes up.

I don't know about popular, but I like where I put mine:

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/baimpala/2004-10-14_174033_Attitude_Mount_001a.jpg

It's angled up at 10 degrees and towards me about 30 IIRC. It's
just a piece of pine made to fit very snugly in the otherwise useless
(IMO) cubby hole. Snaked the cable out behind the dash, and out
to the engine bay. To remove if necessary; about 10 minutes.

There are plenty of people that mount them in the overhead console, but
I actually use that one for sunglasses and the wad of keys for my
trailer. Either place, I think, is a nice inconspicuous place for
mounting.

I'll agree, the Banks chrome tip is a very quality piece. I like that it's double sided so it doesn't discolor. The tip would probably cost $80 by itself. I didn't pitch the 6-gun because it isn't available for the LLY yet. It sounds like he wants to buy an enhancement soon. Of course, if it would be available........... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I'd like to start on the mods when the truck comes in towards the middle of December. I'm going with the offroad look (lift, 37" tires ect...) so I'd also like the extra power to get those rotating. The factory 3.73s will probably be replaced with either 4.56 or 4.88s.

I don't remember the brand but I saw something advertised on Trucks (show on Spike TV). They had a dial mounted near the dash that allowed 5 different settings. Also, how are the Bully Dog products? I don't see many people talking about them on here.

Are you sure the dial had 5 settings? Spike TV did an article on the Banks 6-Gun a while back on a Ford Powerstroke, but that's 6 settings. I don't know of any others that have 5 settings for a dial on the dash. (Bullydog has modules that have dials for 3 settings). I may be missing something, though.

I've had no issues with the Bullydog Powerpup. I believe they're as good as any other programmer.

I might be wrong, it could have been 6. I got caught up in watching him do burnouts after he got half way up the dial :)

Almost positive it's the episode when they were testing the "Gun".

That's why it says "Six Gun" Six dial settings.
