: Is a K3500 "light duty"??

I put a call into 1-800-Chev-USA to have my truck towed in for injector/pump work. Dang thing won't restart without priming, then sometimes turns off.... Anyhow, the guy at 1-800 says "That's a medium duty truck, and the new vehicle limited warranty won't pay for that towing." Well, right here in my 2003 LIGHT DUTY TRUCK warranty and owner assistance information booklet on page 5, it states, "NO CHARGE Warranty repairs, including towing, parts and labor, will be made at no charge, less any applicable deductible."

Clearly, that tells me that GM should pay to tow in my crew cab dually, correct??? The wrecker flat-bedded it to the local dealership, and bills the dealership, I didn't pay out of pocket. How would you handle this?

One tons and below are "Light Duty." Try again, maybe you'll get somebody who knows his stuff. However, your truck is out of warranty unless you have an extended warranty....?

As I read the booklet, yes it is out of warranty for 3/36. However, because of the diesel problem, it says on page 5, under bold TOWING "Towing is covered to the nearest Chevrolet dealer facility if your vehicle cannot be driven because of a warranted defect." Am I splitting hairs?? However, I did purchase the 'major guard' extended warranty, but it ran out 11,000 miles ago, at 75,000.

The way I understand it is once you are out of the "bumper to bumper coverage" the roadside it out also.

The way I understand it is once you are out of the "bumper to bumper coverage" the roadside it out also.I see it that way, too. Work should be covered, but towing is only within the 3/36,000.

Well, I picked up my truck and the dreaded 'cracked filter housing' has reared its ugly head again. Luckily, that is part of the 100K diesel warranty. YEAH! Also, the dealership (Lynn Smith Chevrolet, Burleson TX) got the $125 towing bill knocked down to $25. I'm not sure how....didn't ask. Total bill was $128.50. I'm happy!!!

Glad everything is fixed. Your towing should have been free. It is covered, under the 100K engine coverage. A 1 ton DRW is a light duty truck.

Your run around does not suprize me. When doing lemon law BBB case on my Truck, GMC told BBB my truck did not qualify because it weighed over 10,000 pounds. I had to prove it weighed only 7500 pounds, and the GVWR of 11400 was not the weight of the truck.

I agree!!! It SHOULD be free, since it was part of the diesel that croaked. OTOH....I had it towed to the SECOND closest dealer, not THE closest one. I figured the one in near Ft. Worth was more likely to have parts in stock. Oh well..... I sure thought I was gonna get hit for $225+.
