: Dealer Put 170 Miles on Truck

Just got my truck back from the dealer for an oil change and to check out power steering pump. I took it in with 1008 miles and got it back with 1178 miles on it. the ticket shows that I did infact bring it in with 1008 miles, but doesn't reflect the out going miles. That is alot of miles to change the oil and listen to the "known power steering whine". Can any of you techs or service managers give me advice on how I approach this issue with the service department ?

That's way beyond diagnostic miles for what your service required. That's nearly three hours of straight driving at 60 mph.Sure there isn't a mistake?

Tell them replace the fuel if not!

Ouch, I would be slighty upset with that... I think I would have a talk with the service writer and find out why they did this and see if there would any compensation for fuel, if you are worried about that. Otherwise tell them to pull their heads out of their a$$es and make it right.... Sorry to hear about your bad experience...

Unfortunatley I am positive there is no mistake, I thought I was doing the right thing by taking it to the dealer I bought the truck from. I am fuming over this !!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

Just curious, did they add fuel to make up for the burnt fuel?

No max they didn't replace fuel.

They probably had to go out 80 miles with a trailer to pick up another LB7 with bad injectors and couldn't use their shop truck which was also down with injector problems. Seriously, I'd be mad as hell and go straight to the GM of the dealership. They gotta big problem, possibly legal, and very serious in PR. Give em hell!

Well at least they didn't try to cover it up. It does however confirm that you didn't make any misakes.

My dealer owns 2 dealerships. One is about 30 miles away from the other. If they get too busy they have been known to take the truck to the other dealer to have it worked on. Perhaps something like this has happened. Unlikely but you never know.

It just doesn't make sense that they would joy ride in it. There are probably a half a dozen on the lot like it.

I know Max and I would like to think that this didn't happen but I am furious with this, and need to address this with the dealership. I hope they can make right by this..

Story here in the Seattle area, a gal took he car in for some minor body work and got it back Totaled. Not a dealer but a jippo body shop!! The owner of the shop took the car and was raceing on the freeway in the middle of the night and crashed.

Who knows what was done to your truck to get 170 miles on it. I'd be pissed to the MAX. Let the heads roll...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

Forget the gas used, I would be worried about the abuse that it took while it is still well below break in. I have seen how people drive other peoples cars. I hope you addressed this right away or I would guess it is to late at this point. Let us know the outcome.

Call up GM and make them give you a free 75k warranty -
unfortunately they will just say we were going the “EXTRA
MILE” to service our customers. Or in your case the “EXTRA”
170 miles to make sure you were happy. Grrrrrrrrr

I have seen "road tests".......but man.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif

My guess is that "someone" needed a truck for something and took it for a nice ride.......

I would be inquiring as to why and who was driving it.......

I would contract the GM of the dealership... and with a an complete dull tone... let him know your unhappy and thank him.. and let him know you contacting motor vehicle on the issue ... no attacks.. no arguments.. just like I am informing you of this.. then ..just say thank you and hang up.. count to 10.. he will be callling back to try and work it out ...

UPDATE:

Dealer claims they made a mistake on the milage input.(Which is possible) I guess ?? I also posted this on ask the techs and sombody said that his dealership input incorrect numbers which made the customer think there were 500 miles put on thier vehicle. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

I can't be certian of the milage when I brought it in so I hope this is true and I can forget about the whole thing. They were very understanding of my concern and assured me that this is the result of human error.

Do you know how much fuel was in it when you brought it in? 180 miles should be quite noticible on the fuel guage!

Too funny.

How about this,

Took my truck in for the AC TSB, they diagnosed (2nd trip) and didn't set it up yet again, printed the specs for me to show me it was in range (long stupid story about how the dealer parks the car in the shade, takes the AC OFF of auto, lowest recirc fan speed, comes back an hour later and whala, 45 deg vent temp, anyway don't get me started)

I had brought it in with a tank reading, when I left, i got 500 yds out the door, hit the highway, and ran out of diesel, THEN the DIC ding came on.

I did get the TSB performed after I had sent the survey form backhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

In the mid 60's I worked at a big underground hotel parking garage. One night I parked a '66 Chevelle 396SS, which at that time was new to the market. This car was probably a month old. The guy I worked with un-parked it and went out for a spin.....heard him get rubber in 3 gears. He came back about 10 minutes later and took awhile to re-park it. I remember wondering what was taking so long and walking down for a look. He was maneuvering into a tight space beside a big concrete pillar. A couple days later the boss called me in, said I'd dented the Chevelle and that the owner remembered me parking it. I didn't mention the other guy, but I did get fired. Maybe your dealer made a mistake, but unauthorized rides do happen.
