Is pump rub an issue an every model year Duramax or only certain years? I have an '06 with 22k on it.

As far as I know they've been using the same design since 01.

That makes me sick to my stomach. $40K truck that _will_ have a problem. This might be might first and last American vehicle.

It is not only the American vehicles with problems. I work witha guy who has to me a expensive Lexus and it stays in the shop more than he drives it. But he thinks he got a great deal and as he says, I drive nothing but the best for him. But I see he old POS in the parking lot more than I see that new pretty one.

They all have some issues and just the price or name dont mean squat anymore.
My 2 cents

There's no guarantee it will happen. In fact, odds are it won't.

It was posted on here somewhere before that some 05 had the fix. The 06 do have the updated one. Do a search.

Good luck, may I recommend a Range Rover. Get used to driving a loaner, ask any Range owner.

Problem has existed since around 1998 when the magnesium cases came about in the half ton stuff. It effects all GM trucks, S/T size, half ton trucks, I've even seen it on the AWD Astro Vans. I've had everything apart up to 07 Classic and they are still using the same design.

Exactly...My sister had a 97 Range Rover, bought it brand new, and it was the biggest pile of ****. The CEL was constantly on and she had nothing but problems with it.

Arent they owned by Ford? I think they're using Ford 4.6's.

I didn't say anything about owning Euro trash. Sad to say but the Jap vehicles I've owned in the past gave nary a problem. Don't get me wrong here, I love my truck and think it's the best diesel going. However, I will not own something that I know will cost me several grand in repairs down the road.

Hey now easy on the Range Rover. I have a 2006 Range Rover Sport. 4.0BMW Supercharged deal. That has been GREAT so far. Have 30K miles. This thing flat A$$ hauls and with the Brembo brake stops on a dime. Now it does eat brakes pads. Had to drop new set at 22K miles. But that is my wifes driving habits. I never brake...Only accelerate ;)

Bummer on the T Case. I got my MA parts coming, mine bought the farm earlier this week.

That's funny because not long ago I had to stop a few blocks from home and pick up my very rich neighbor because I saw a wrecker loading up his $80k Range Rover. Guess what I was driving.....the Duramax:D

Good luck, may I recommend a Range Rover. Get used to driving a loaner, ask any Range owner.

Dan,
Do not get me wrong. I LOVE my Dmax. Would not swap it for a Ranger Rover or any other car for that matter, Just wanted to say that when LR of A dumped Jag drive train garbage and went BMW it got a bunch better. I will say this, Range Rovers have the best Nav system I have been around. GM's systems really are really poor.

I don't think that this is an American vs Import debate. I don't think any car companies make 100% of their parts. For instance, the tcase is a new venture part, new ventures can be found in all sorts of vehicles. So it is they that need to step up and stand behind their product and get us a fix!

I had a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 (a >$50k car) a while back, and that thing had a gertrag tranny in it. These transmissions used bronze synchro gears that didn't stand up to abuse very well, and quite a few of these cars have issues because of that. AFAIK, neither gertrag nor mitsubishi ever came out with a fix or a recall for this problem.

These cars also had a transfer case seal issue that would cause the gears to seize up at speed, which would cause horrific accidents. This was fixed via recall.

Car companies and their vendors will probably not be likely to fix an issue outside of warranty that does not involve deaths. Sad to say, but that is economics, no matter what side of the ocean you are on.

I love my truck, and I can't see myself driving any other kind of truck.

It certainly isn't a matter of one auto maker being perfect and the rest building crap. This link shows that even the mighty will have a few mistakes :hail:

You psychic? How do you know if anything is going to cost money down the road? lol. 1990 K- 5 has 275,000 miles NEVER had a valve cover off.
I had a 1986 K-5 electronic thousand dollar carburetor model that drove me crazy, go figure.. every 80,000 needed a valve job..

I was thinking the same thing.....LMAO.

My in-laws have a fancy infinity SUV and that thing has been in the shop multiple times and some of the issues have not been resolved so they just drive it that way.
I say buy what you like and want and forget about the rest. Let's just hope the decision is a good one and it has an American name.

A friend just bought the 07 classic, and dropped the big bucks as well. and we were having lunch and his wife was there. I guess it was a BIG topic with her to buy this truck, but I informed them oof the pump rub issue and she asked what year I had, which I replied 03 and she quickly replied well ours is a 07 and they has since fix the problem. I informed her that their 45 grand truck is prone to it, and politly i9nformed her to not be making statements she knows nothing about, I think I ruined her appetite, and I bet he got an ear full on the way home about "I thought you said this 45 thousand dollar truck you had to have was so great"...ect...You could see it in her eyes, it was priceless!

I love my truck, and nothing is perfect, and we can improve upon what we have, nuff about it, just my 2 cent worth along with the story.......

Yeah **** breaks. That's just the way it is. What is funny is the people who are so big on their jap crap and how goooooood it is. Everything is subject to breaking.

anything mechanical(car or not) is prone to some type of failure, it's just the way it is. Now something that may inherently be a defect, yes you'd better CYA. Even the mighy Toyota has an issue with the 5.7L(do a search) so no one is perfect, I've seen all makes and models die early/outlive their expectancy.

A lot of it I say is proper maintenance being done/not being done, but I also say a good hunk of it just dumb luck.
