: Dealer Put 170 Miles on Truck

Just got my truck back from the dealer for an oil change and to check out power steering pump. I took it in with 1008 miles and got it back with 1178 miles on it. the ticket shows that I did infact bring it in with 1008 miles, but doesn't reflect the out going miles. That is alot of miles to change the oil and listen to the "known power steering whine". Can any of you techs or service managers give me advice on how I approach this issue with the service department ?

Ask them how many people they let test drive your truck while they had it!

That's bullsh*t!

Techs, Come on I want to go about this the right way I don't want to be an A-hole when I approach the dealer in the morning. Suggestions Please ???? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Honestly Reaper, A-hole mode might just be the route to take.
This seems a little excessive - 170 miles? Seriously, what the
hell could be their valid explaination for that?

I'd ask them what is an appropriate test drive to verify a reported
problem like the steering whine. 20, 30 miles round trip?
The Service Manager would have some serious explaining to do.

Thanks corona, I just fell sick about the whole situation.

I would definetely bring it up with the SM, and make sure you had the mileage correct. A service advisor once punched in the wrong digits and customer thought we put 500 miles on her car, in that case the numbers were just punched in wrong.

Yes, I would have to agree with Corona. I would let them know your seriously P.O'ed and just what the heck are they doing driving your truck for 170 miles? That is not a test drive, that is going around picking up parts or hauling something else for the shop. The least they can do is a full tank of fuel, actually two, a wash and inside cleanup. And when the survay card shows up mark them down.

UPDATE:

Dealer claims they made a mistake on the milage input.(Which is possible) I guess ?? I also posted this on ask the techs and sombody said that his dealership input incorrect numbers which made the customer think there were 500 miles put on thier vehicle. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

I can't be certian of the milage when I brought it in so I hope this is true and I can forget about the whole thing. They were very understanding of my concern and assured me that this is the result of human error.

When I go to the dealer I read off the milage for the writer and then check the numbers before I sign. Then I know what the milage is when they get it. I don't think the writer understands why I do this, but she is happy because it gets the job done faster.

I usually find it annoying when you report a problem that is only noticeable driving and you know they didn't test drive to reproduce the problem. 170 miles is excessive but if they get a good diagnosis and fix a problem but put on a couple extra miles, I wouldn't be bothered by it.
