: Lower Profile Tires and Gravel?

Hello!
I'm buying new wheels and rubber soon and have a few questions. I'm planning on lifting my truck about 2"-3".

1. I'm thinking that I would like 17"-18" wheels. What size tire would give me something maybe 1"-2" taller than 235/85r16 and how tall would the rubber be?

2. How do lower profile tires fare in gravel and dirt? I drive about 100-150km a week on gravel and have concerns about possible failure and wear?

I can't think of any more at the moment, but if anyone can help that would be great! :)

Thanks in advance!
Jay

Use this to play with different tire sizes http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
The only issue I ever had with lower profile tires is the bumps. Depending on how hard and how big you could bend or crack a rim.

Why would you want to lift your truck and then use a lower profile tire on it? just curious...

Low profile tires and rocks/gravel/harsh road conditions do not fare well at all.

that is a cool tire calculator !

Thanks for that calculator! It's helped me narrow down sizing alot! I underestimated what the actual measurements would be so I think I'll be fine. I don't think I'll have a problem with either 265/70 R17 or 265/65 R18. It will mostly depend upon availability and price!

Thanks! :)

Just remember there will still be some variation based on rim size and air pressure.
