: My New 2007.5 (LMM) Went Back To The Dealer Today...

Last month I had to be towed to the dealer after the fuel filter went bad. (see this thread):
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156112

But I noticed the same pattern of leaks on my driveway I saw before. I had thought before the spots were caused by the leaking fuel filter. I just moved to a new place, and over the weekend noticed the same pattern of spots starting to show up on the driveway. My first thought was that the fuel filter was leaking again. So this morning I took it over to the local GMC dealer. This was a far nicer dealer than any I've been to. It's a small dealership, and all the customers seem to know each other. It's in a mostly rural area, lots of farmland around, and most of the customers I saw coming in were older - 60's and 70's. Completely different than anything I've ever been used to. Anyway, the problem turned out to be, of all things.... a leaking transfercase gasket. They had to order the gasket so they set me up with a loaner from Enterprise car rental - a Chevy Avlo. It was a fun little car to zip around in, but way, way too low to the ground for my taste :) So as soon as I got off work I zoomed on back over there and picked up my truck. But what I wonder, is why, with less than 3,000 miles, the fuel filter goes out, and the transfercase gasket goes out? Could it have been built on the wrong day of the week? The LMM Dmax itself has been great so far, and no problems with the DPF. I sure hope nothing else goes out on me :)

If I am going to have any problems I can only hope it is just a filter or a gasket leak. Aggrevating yes, but minor.

Sounds like you found a great dealer in the process so all is not bad.

Im amazed that more things dont go wrong considering the shear # of parts assembled in the time frame (24hrs) they do so on the # of trucks produced on a daily basis. Amazing really:o: We will all have some sort of problem more than likley and your issues so far sound expected at some point, they just happend to have happened out of the gate. No biggie

Thanks guys. Unfortunately the leak is still there, maybe even a tad worse. I parked in a different spot last night to be sure. I had to cancel a trip because of it, I'm afraid to drive it too far like that. So back to the dealer it goes, again.

Took it back to the dealer this morning. They determined the leak was coming from the slip yoke coming out of the transfer case. They didn't have one in stock, so it'll be next week sometime before I get my truck back. They provided a loaner from Enterprise car rental - I'm now driving a dinky little green Colorado with surging brakes. I was helped by a different service adviser, and later the service adviser from before stopped by to appoligise for the mis-diagnosis. He felt really bad about it. The service adviser who helped me today was really nice too, nothing at all like service advisers I've been used to. He looked almost exactly like Art Bell. :) So it looks like the transfer case gasket was ok. So one bad fuel filter and one bad slip yoke. I know this is still minor stuff, and that these things happen sometimes, and can happen to any vehicle, but at the same time it made me wonder if it had anything to do with the old saying about not buying during a 1st production year, since I had my '05 for two years & over 20K miles without any problems. But on the other hand nobody else here at DP seems to be having any problems with their 07.5's so maybe it was just my bad luck :)

This is exactly how my truck problems started. 54 problems later ( and 11 waiting to be fixed) Im looking at other trucks.

Get used to it. These things are nightmares.

But hey, don't take my word for it look at the Technical Service bulletins for your truck.

I'm sorry you've having so many problems that does suck. I mean, I got the classic and have had nothing to big but I have had my share of issues... The more complex these things get the more things that can go wrong.
We keep demanding as people the latest and greatest and for that we become the testers of the new and wonderful. I'm not saying it's our fault, i think it's just the way the cookie crumbles.
I have a horse trailer that i cant seem to quit taking to the shop (5 hours away) and it's brand new and a nice trailer that noone i know has problems with. It's one of those things.
It sounds like you found a heck of a dealer on the upside though!
It was nice of that guy to come out of his way and apologize, in my opinion that's how it should have been handled.

They're nowhere near as bad as the TSB's for the Fords. Every brand is going to have some problem vehicles here and there. You just have to do research before buying and make the best choice you can at the time. My brother has had nothing but problems with his VW, but I know of MANY people who love theirs. You can't build hundreds of thousands of vehicles a year and expect them all to be perfect.

I believe Exiss is number one with problems, Sundowner is not far behind..
