: What happens if low sulfur diesel is used ?

I have a new LMM and there's no problem getting ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) in Canada but I'm interested to know if anyone has had experience running the LMM on low sulfur diesel for a short while.

Reason: We go to Mexico each winter and there's no ULSD there except in a few border towns. The diesel is good quality but it's low sulfur, not ultra low.

Official position by GM reps is "Extended use of LSD may cause damage to the DPF and other components of the emissions control system".

Note that they can not/will not give me a definition for "extended period" and "may cause damage" is not the same as "will cause damage".

I'd bet my house that GM has done extensive testing and knows exactly what will or will not happen, even if it simply more frequent regeneration cycles. Can't figure out why they won't be more definitive. Maybe there's not really much at all that happens, other than a shortening of the life of the DPF??? How can a tech tell whether a driver has used LSD in the truck?

Anyway, the main question is, have YOU used LSD and what were the results? For that matter, has ANYONE had a problem with the DPF?

Thanks
Ted
