ok i have a 2006 lbz. i have a problem w/ starting. it tkes a long 6-8 second crank & no start. then at the 2nd crank starts up.
fuel filter was replaced 3-4 months ago. hyperpac program is on level one.
i have 16k .
it seems like its a fuel delivery problem. i feel like it might be a fuel psi. reg. or does diesel have one

Prime your system again, just like you changed the fuel filter. You may be losing your prime and introducing air into the fuel system

check the rubber o ring on top of the fuel filter housing it is common for them to leak and suck air or the plastic screw got stripped

Sounds like fuel pump went out. I'm not sure if diesels work the same as gas trucks. If they lose fuel pressure most of the time its the fuel pump.

Sounds like the filter. Had that problem once before. Air got into the fuel.

FYI there is no fuel pump in the tank, or along the frame rail lik eon most vehicles, or the 6.5 diesel. There is a "lift pump" built into the back of the cp3 pump. Doubt that went out. Id be more inclined to beleive an o ring failed pickup tube in the tank etc etc allowing it to get air. a smoke test (where they drain the fuel system and hook up a fog machine to see if there are any (even small) leaks sounds like it is in order.

I just replaced my filter with an OEM and have recently started having this issue. If my truck(02' LB7 w/109k) sits for more than 12hrs I will have to manually prime the system. What's weird is my truck will start fine but die after about 30 seconds. My feeling is the Fuel Pump is going out but other than this issue the truck runs great. By trade I'm a BMW Tech and I know that static fuel pressure will cause this same issue on a Gas engine but am not sure about a Diesel. Any thoughts?

theres a check ball in the filter housing. It shuts when you unscrew the filter as to suppposedyly not leak diese out and allow air in, make sure when the new filter put on it unseated the valve.

My 2006 Sierra gave me the same problem last week, it turned out to be the plastic water drain on the bottom of the filter. It would not seal properly and suck air. I had the dealer replace and all is well now!
