I have an 82 suburban w/6.2 diesel. It was recently converted from auto to a 4spd. Problem is my cruising speed is about 65 mph. Clutch is good. Is there a 5spd that would bolt up to my 4spd's bell housing. What kind? Possibly a 6spd?

I think it was said here that they are all the same bolt patern but I am not real sure

Try www.advanceadaptors.com, they may be able to help you out.
They probably have an adaptor for whatever transmission you can find.

I assume an adapter would be expensive. Cost is an issue for me.

Is your Suburban 2 or 4wd? For either there are no bolt in or salvage yard swaps. You'll need some custom pieces with the 4wd requiring more. A rearend gear change might be cheaper and easier.

If it's a 4wd you can use an NV4500/NP205 combo out of a '91 1 ton crewcab 4x4, which was the last of the old body style trucks and the first to get the NV4500. It's a rare bird but is the only factory setup with a 5 speed that will bolt into an older 4wd, as far as I know. It's also a hydraulic clutch, so if you did the conversion on your Burb using a mechanical clutch then you'll need to redo alot of it, to install the hydro clutch master cylinder and the new hydro pedal assembly.

If your Burb is a 2wd then the swap will be significantly easier since you just need to attach a 5 speed to the engine, no worries about the t-case. There were quite a few Chevy trucks that came with the NV4500 in the 90s, you just need to find an NV4500 with the Chevy bellhousing.

It's a 2wd. Will a NV4500 bolt to the bell housing that goes with my 4spd? Is the NV4500 an overdrive tranny?
