I'm considering buying a new TV and want a GMC or Chevrolet Duramax/Allison. I'm trying to decide whether to get a 2007 model or a 2008. I'd like to know how owners of older diesel models are finding operation with the new ULSD. Also I'd like to know how owners of 2008 models are finding the new engines designed specifically for ULSD. Sorry but I don't know all the alphabetology of the GM diesel engines.

I'm assuming you meant tow vehicle?

Been reading the threads and I guess what I want to know about is the experience with the LMM engine. versus LLY.

All the engines have been decent so far with minor quirks in all of them. Some minor, some more major I should say.
LB7's had thier injector issues, LLY's have thier overheat issues. I havent heard much about the LBZ's and I know quite a few guys who have them. If i was to be buying any Duramax at this point it time it would be an 07 Classic with the LBZ motor. I cant comment on the LMM.
Either way, so far there hasnt been any issues with any of the duramax/alli combo's that werent easily overcome.
As per the LLY motor (my truck), its a good unit. Makes good power. I havent had any issues with mine that werent easily solved with little or no cost. I love the truck and it does everything I need it to with ease. And the temps dont get too hot in Alberta, I havent seen any overheat issues with mine up here. In Nevada was a bit of a different story but it was a ways from actually overheating.

I have the LBZ in a 3500 dually and the ULSD fuel hasn't caused me any issues or problems. I can't really tell a different in it..:)

I have a 2006 LBZ with almost 21,000 miles and I've noticed a drop in fuel economy between LSD and ULSD (Approx. 2 mpg). Other than that, NO PROBLEMS so far.
During my current cross country trip, I have found several truck stops that still sell only the LSD fuel. Owners of LMM trucks would be SOL at these truck stops.

I stopped to get fuel last night in Northern Virginia, and found out that the station only had lsd, so no fuel for my lmm. I'll have to look along the interstate today when I take off. I still have half a tank so no big deal, I guess in a pinch I would put a couple of gallons in it and roll on to find another station.

Bought my 2007 Classic LBZ, 3500 DRW about a month ago. Went through basically the same questions you have. I ended up with an early '07. It was manufactured in 07/06. It had been on the stealers lot for 251 days. But, it has no mod's for the new ULSD. That's a good thing! I was told that the later '07's had a dealer installed exhaust mod. which basically included cutting the factory exhaust and welding on one with the particulate filter set-up, which they told me was a maint. nightmare. Because of these "issues" the '08 is not out yet and none of the stealers had any literature or idea when they were coming out. As I was shopping, I found fewer and fewer trucks available. I was told, "When they're gone, they're gone".

I bougth my classic 07 lbz about a moth ago also. The dealer had 5 classics left, and one of the new 07's lmm. They are not reqired to modify the classic trucks and the new ones built in calender year 07 already have the new junk on them. The new ones are shipping right now.
