has anybody had any problems with ats co pilot? without a load it seems to do fine, u can really feel it grab. When i put the trailer on it (10,000-14000lbs.) it shifts horably rough. i dont know if its just 4th to 5th, it might even be 3rd to 4th but it feels like its going to rip the rear end off !!! I had it in the setting below race mode with the trailer. the other day i had the bed full of dirt and some bails of straw (not that heavy) the co pilot was set about midway if i gave it a good, smooth, constant push of the pedel its very jerky through shifting. with the load i turned the co pilot off and stepped on it, it shifted smooth. Something just doesnt feel right. has anyone else had to figure this problem out?

I think that the Co-Pilot is intended for racing (drag, pull, street show off, etc.) not trailer towing. It firms up shifts, not what you'd want when pulling a trailer--I don't think. Other Co-Pilot owners please chime in.

If you read the ATS website one of the selling features is that it bumps the line pressure up for 5th gear towing.

I think that means that it eliminates cutback in line pressure when it goes into 5th (inherent feature of the Allison).

Co-Pilot knowledgeable people--I don't think that it does this. I think there's still cutback (decreased line pressure in 5th gear). Help.

If you have you used it for hot rodding you may have to reset your taps cause it works on several perameters like throttle position, road speed and engine load which of course are different drag racing and towing.

I've got the same problem with tow/haul when pulling a trailer. All my other shifts are nice and firm, but I have a bad jerk in 3-4. I too look for some insight how too solve this. I can't get my taps to reset on my 6 speed for some reason but I figured they would eventually adjust. Or do I have this wrong?

My truck did the same right after my tranny was done in tow haul up to the point of tire chirp on the 3-4 shift. The taps of course were reset when the trans was done and after about 2k probably 1200 tow haul miles it shifts like a dream.

mine is the same way. i thought for sure i broke a shaft on one of the shifts. it shifts so dam hard. or it just shifts moderate and chugs 3-4 times and smooths out. almost like a stick trans in first or second and playing with the throttle. rocks the truck. maybe the shift/trim valve applying and releasing pressure till it is happy? very unhappy with it for that reason. i like to use it for personal comfort when towing on the highway simply because i don't like to go 50 mph and never pass.
