Just found this place the other day as I have been researching various issues surrounding my interest in prchasing a Diesel tow rig. I have gotten some good info here. Kudos for a useful site!

I am down to Ford and Chevy now. In view of the blow torch exhaust tip and cab removal for maintenance on the Ford, I will likely be ordering a Chevy 3500 CC LTZ SRW 4x4 in the next couple of weeks.

WIth respect to my question, I am interested in the distinction between the SRW identified above and a DRW, meaning exactly what parts are different between the two. Rear hubs is obvious but what else? Is the whole axle different? and springs? Driveshaft? front axle? Any info will be much appreciated.

i know the hubs are differant, the axle is the same irc. bigger rear brakes. tires and rims. if it were a gasser i think the transfer case is differant. but that does not apply. weight rating is diff. i beleive the tow is rated higher due to stability. srw is 14600, drw is 15900. along with gcvw srw is 22000, drw is 23500. basically it minus the obvious. good luck either way. the srw is easier to park and drive if you dont really need the extra weight rating.

I found that thread I think, THere is some conflicting info in there. I am going to buy a SRW, I was mostly intersted in what it would take to convert it to a DRW later if I ended up needing more towing capacity. I dont now but might later. Could jsut buy a new truck then but that is not my usual MO so I was curious as to what it would take.

Just buy a dually and be done with it and then you do not have to worry about it later.

Wont fit int he garage at work, so not doing that. Hence my interest in later modification

The obvious one is the box is different. I seem to recall that you pay a premium to buy a SRW over the dually. That didn't sound right and still doesn't so I may have it wrong. I never checked it out since I NEED the dually.

Are the hubs different? Or just the rims.
