I have not installed gauges yet and was just wondering what kind of boost numbers you guys are seeing in level 3 (160HP). I havent been able to get an answer as to if boost is added in that level.

It is my understand that boost is added in that level and the rest of the way up, but you might want to PM Dan@PPE and talk to him to make sure. That would be the easiest solution.

No body is running a PPE Xcelerator on their LBZ?

Level 3 and below do not add boost it is level 4 and up. I run level 3 all the time boost is the same as stock so max is 23-25psi

Thanks for the response. I thought I was told that level 3 added a little boost...At least that is what someone told me from PPE. On a side note I have had good experience in dealing with Dan but the other people I've spoke with have not impressed me at all. They seem to have very limited knowledge of what they sell. I've received different answers to the same questions from multipe PPE employees. I'm not saying anything bad about Dan or PPE, but some of the other people there need to do some homework. Dan, if you read this please check your pm's.

Know what you are saying...my response is the response I got from Dan @ PPE when I asked the same question you are asking now

stock boost on the LBZ is 20 psi reading after intercooler, on level 3 shopuld be around 23 spike 25, level 4 28 level 5 30 level 6 spikes36 stays around 34 with boost controler level 6 can hit 42 but its out of the turbos map.

Thanks for the reply...I was told level 3 was 27 by one of PPe's "other" employees. Do you think I would benefit from using a boost controller on level 3?

I use a boost controler on level III and it really seems to help out the milage. You can set it for what ever boost you want to run and leave it there. It will only hit your boost setting after 18 psi has been reached if the switch is on, I believe. It works good for me;). Dan has been very buisy when I pm him it takes a while for him to get back some times. New trucks need new programmng and that sort of stuff.

Do you notice that on level 3 it defuels preety bad if you put it to the floor? My truck moves good once its rolling, but from a stop I get terrible defuel in 1-2 shift and 2-3.

I see you have no trans work done, try running around in t/h and easy into for a few up shifts and down shifts then try ripping on it. should help you alittle.

Thanks...Ill try that. Are you saying to always use t/h or just for a while to help it learn. I haven't hardly used the t/h at all. I know everyone says all tunes have some defuel, but just when it feels like its going to anihilate the tires it defuels terribly. Do you think I could run the level 4 (225hp) with a stock trans?

Level 4 should be ok if you dont run the piss out of it 24/7 let trans learn on level you want to race in and do that in t/h, I always ran mine in t/h thats just me, even with built trans I still do it. without t/h I dont blow tires off from a roll if i'm in t/h and lay into it she will blow them off easy.

Cool...I've really wanted to try level 4. I only have the standard xcelerator, so thats my highest setting. When you change tunes do you reset the trans before or after you install the new tune? Do I need to reset the trans when going from 160hp to 225 hp? I don't do any racing or heavy pulling very often so I'm thinking Ill be ok.

dont reset trans just up the level and drive some and easie into it over a few up shifts and down shifts let the trans learn that away you dont have to set the trans into fast learn eveytime you change a level

ok,,,but I still wonder if something isnt wrong with my programmer. I have over 500 miles running the 160 tune and resetting the trans and there is no way I could rip it from a dead stop. Just wondering how the hell you guys can launch these things. I'd be better of using only half throttle...but that seems kind of lame.

If you have the latest update from PPE it dosen't defuel as bad. If you are racing from a slow roll as slow as 15mph let your truck shift into 2nd and brake boost it. Works good for me and eliminates 1-2 shift, and dosn't just spin tires. 1.20 is the latest i believe.

drive around in t/h and then try taking off alittle harder, you will wantt o upgrade to a transgo jr and a 1057 converter or if you plan on adding more later should get trans done and over with.

Do I need the converter and trans go for level 4?

The guys at PPE have been in and out quite a bit with events and such. I have noticed that it sometimes takes some time to get back from em via PM's too. I find its better to call em. I always ask for Dan or occasionaly Joe.

Just going off my horrid memory here but......level 3 dosnt add boost. I seem to remember 23 ish post intercooler? Spikes a lil higher. With the ppe it will come up quicker and spike a lil higher IIRC.

Always do the lil trans reset with the PPE. Its not actually reseting your taps, if it did every time you did it your truck would shift realy funky. what I have been told it does is just sets it into fast learn. Witch makes sense. so the trans should get with the program a bit faster. Seemed it took awhile for my trans to get trained though. There are all kindsa wierdness and odities with the allison and the ECM and TCM. My advice if you run into an issue or you arnt 100% happy with something call the manufacturere and talk to someone who knows whats going on(Dan or Joe in this case). It may be an issue they never saw in thier test vehicles and it may be an issue they can fix. But if they dont know about it it wont ever get fixed.

daily driving and beating long term I would say level 3 is as high as you want to run on a box stock trans and expect it to live a long happy life. Anything farthur and your realy playing with fire IMO. Probably be fine for a little bit but eventually you will do damage I bet.

I would definatly throw a transgo jr in it. Its cheap and easy to install. I wouldnt expect it to hold the world though. I'd actually run one on a stock 6 speed truck just becasue its good and its cheap and its easy :)

do you guys have these same problems with defueling? Just seems odd that I can't put the pedal to the floor without it hesitating so much
