: Cruise control quits and then restarts
blnagel 10-12-2004, 10:29 AM Has anybody expierenced this yet? I was driving to Edmonton and then my cruise quit. I tried it @ 15 minutes later and it worked fine. It did this several times on my long trip. Any ideas out there? Thanks

The switch on the brake pedal? Perhaps it is on a hairy edge of adjustment.
Jim
I have not had that situation happen.
But I do have problems with cruise.
Once set, and I need to accel, I hit the accell swith, and some times cruise will shut off rather than increasing 1 mile per hour.
Figure that one out?
Max Power 10-12-2004, 01:20 PM Next time it happens pull the brake back with your foot and see if that allows you to set. You could also try tapping the brakes and see if it sets after that.

Me too. I chock it up to a poor connection in the switch.
Norske 10-12-2004, 07:38 PM Mine will do the same but only when the cab interior is cold. Once the cab warms up the accel switch works normal.
JEBar 10-12-2004, 10:46 PM found by accident the first time the curise on my truck acted as outlined in the opening of this thread that if I pulled the fuse in the panal next to the driver's door and lightly roughed up the prongs the cruise would go back to working ... many months later it did it again and once more it responded to the same fix

HoustonDMax 10-13-2004, 07:51 AM Last three GM trucks I have had have all done it, including current truck. Brother (GM tech) said it is brake switch related; either pull pedal up manually, or tap pedal several times to fully release the switch. Solution works for me. I have just gotten used to it, and never think twice about it anymore. Edited by: HoustonDMax
blnagel 10-13-2004, 10:31 AM Next time it happens I will try to pull up on the brake pedal or even tapping the brakes. My question is why would it all of a sudden start to do this and why when I am cruising? If this fixes the problem then great.
Ben
Camstyn 10-13-2004, 12:00 PM Had this happen to me once, after my camshaft position sensor crapped out. I was driving it to the dealer to get it fixed when the cruise started acting up.
CPS failure symptoms were no-start and SES light.
baimpala 10-13-2004, 12:26 PM Not flaming here but seems like you guy are fixing the symptoms instead of the problem by lifting the pedal. Is there a way to adjust the switch so that it is less sensitive? If so, fix it once and you won't ever have to worry about it again. . .
Of course I say this like I know what the switch looks like. If you can't adjust it, well dumb on me. . . LOL

blnagel 10-13-2004, 12:33 PM I agree. I feel that a fix is the way to do it. That is why I asked here, but if I can get by then that is what I will do.

Frank Blum 10-13-2004, 03:45 PM I had the same problem as you. I did the same fix as JEBar. Removing and reinstalling the fuse must reset the computer/control module etc. The cruise is very sensitive and I have had mine kick out on a rough road and when trying to use it to speed up. With out these little problems it is still smarter than my right foot. Later! Frank

Exactly what mine does
charlie560 10-13-2004, 04:01 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif I have experienced the cruise control problem shortly buying my DMax in 2001. First time I tried the fuse trick. It seemed to work but didn't fix it so I decided to live with it. Will try the brake pedal trick next time it happens.

This fix is for the problem of cruise not responding to resume, after cruise is shut off by using the brake pedal. I have not had the problem of cruise shutting off by itself, and have no idea whether this fix would help for that or not. Simply relaying my actual experiences.
WEll a couple of us have CC quit when commanding an accel.
Has any one went to the dealer for it? I am out of warrenty, and dont want to throw parts at it (turn signal/CC stalk) they are VERY expensive.
ZZ4x4 10-14-2004, 12:16 PM Have you noticed that it seems to quit when towing or on a steep grade as opposed to on flat ground with an empty truck?
My 00 GMC will quit when the load becomes too great. Seems like the
Cruise will only give so much gas pedal before it decides something is
wrong and turns itself off. I've tested and retested and it only
happens under a max load ( on mine anyway).
Jeff
I have noticed that it appears to happen more so around 60 mph ....
No pattern with rain or wipers on.......
Any one have any updates>>?
Bluejay 01-16-2005, 09:18 PM I had the same thing happen once. Since it never happened before I put on a Juice with Attitude, I blamed it on that. It has corrected itself.
