I've got a 2004 Sierra 2500HD Duramax.

Have any of you had a problem with your keyless entry system suddenly becoming MUCH less sensitive? I used to be able to use the remote 40-50 feet away from the truck, but suddenly it sometimes doesn't even work right next to the driver's door now.

I put in a new CR-2032 battery, but it didn't make any difference.

Last weekend I had a Pioneer XM radio receiver installed along with an additional AUX audio input. They had the whole dashboard torn apart, so I'm guessing they did something bad to the keyless entry system's antanna.

According to the service manual the passenger side door is where the reciever is located. (PDM, Passenger Door Module). The schematic indicates an internal antenna. Where they mucking about behind the door panel? It looks like the unit is part of the switches on the passenger door.

Woodster,

For what it's worth, I had the same problem with my truck for over a year!

The remotes wouldn work only if I had them right beside the truck. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what the problem was. Nothing I did seemed to make it work any better. One day the remote started working from over 100' away every single time I would hit the button.

After about 30 minutes of fiddling, I realized thae culprit was my fire dept. scanner...I always leave it on. This particular day it was off and the remotes worked fine. If I turned the scanner on, the remotes were basically useless. With it off, they work great.

I still don't exactly know why, but since the scanner and remote speaker are installed inside the console, I insatalled a secondary remote switch for my scanner so that I can turn it on and off easily.

The long and short of it is that it may well be the new radio setup that is somehow disrupting the signal from your remote. (Then again...Maybe not!)

Does it do the same thing with both remotes? I had a problem where my keyless entry remote would not work, but my wife's would. I had to get a new remote from the dealer.
