Can i get EFI live and not destroy my stock trans? I've searched and haven't had a real clear anser. I know you can do mild to wild tunes so I'm guessing I'll be alright?

Torque is what hurts the trans. You can "detorque" a bigger tune to help save the trans with EFILive, but it will never replace a built trans.

Move the shift points up the RPM band, reduce power increases under 2500 rpm, and you might get away with perhaps 400rwhp for extended periods.

How do you know what is too much or how much power you are making if you dont dyno it?

Maybe it is like the old saying about how tight you can get something..."tightening until she strips then back off 1/4 a turn and that is where you should have stopped."

Wait til the tranny blows then you know how far you shouldn't have gone.

In all seriousness I have been asking this question for a while. I want to modify my truck through EFI Live. I don't want to invest a lot into the transmission as this is a daily driver and work truck etc. So I only want to modify it at a safe level and be sure the rest of the running gear can handle it.

Sorry for being a wise-ace!

Yup. Limp the trans to find out what is too much! Works for me!

Seriously, there is no perfect answer for all trucks. You want safe? Buy condoms instead of tuners. :D

Seems that many trucks have went to 400rwhp with no ill effects, and we know for a fact 500rwhp will kill one.

Once you limp it once, it will limp easier the next time.

Once you limp it once, it will limp easier the next time.

exactly......

we also know some trans/trucks hold up better than others

we also have a good idea that most trucks will hold X tune for awhile but eventualy it will probably hurt it. we can say that on a lb7 if you run a 90 hp juice you will probably be fine unloaded for quite some time....if you run the 125 juice you are playing with fire and will probably hurt your trans eventualy.

so.....if you want to make a probably trans safe tune you should probablt try to limit low end a bit, dyno it and limit it around what to the rears? or you should just follow the general rule of thumb for off the shelf stuff?

Being easy on the 4-5 upshift and rolling into it in 5th will save it for longer (then again I built my trans with less than 25k on the truck after being tired of resetting the limp mode).

If he already has a modded CP3, ATS sticks and an Edge, the fire is already being played with on that stock ally;) .

I was more thinking this could be a potentialy good sticky for others;)

DOH!!!!

Ignore what I posted earlier. I thought this was an LBZ. I got confused between threads.

At 325rwhp on an LB7, your stock trans at it's limit, not 400 like an LBZ. 400rwhp will hurt a stock LB7 Ally.

On a lbz six speed and trango what are people safely running.

That is the million dollar question that no one really seems confident to answer yet...

I didn't know this was moved and I just found it. Thank you guys for all the help and replies. I think I might try a Small tune for now and build my tranny next year. I also need to change my sig...the ats injectors are out for right now.

I did the transgo Jr. and have been running a 425 rwhp tune for about a week. I try to let off on the 4-5 shift, but I find myself getting on it pretty good from the stop light. Wednesday night I was coming around a corner at about 11pm at night, there was nobody around. I got on it just a little bit too much and slightly spun the tires at 30 mph. All the sudden I see the old blue and red lights in the rear view. I pulled over and gave him my license, reg. and insurance. And he goes "something wrong with your truck"? and I said "ya it needs bigger tires". He said I was doing 65 in a 45 but I doubt I was going that fast. Anyway long story short, I got the lecture instead of the $320 speeding ticket. Tranny seems to be just fine, whatever tune you run, just make it relatively stock from 0-50% throttle. That way you can drive like a grandma if you need to without much abuse to the tranny.

Is there a 'best/easy' way to modify throttle response like you mentioned above without having to modify boost, timing/etc. with a more powerful tune? I am currently running a tune very similar to the 40HP tune from a v2.0 old predator and I notice that the truck is really defueling a lot on shifts - even with light throttle I notice it. When I had the Edge EZ it did not do this .... I ran the Edge (Sold the Edge to get EFILive...) on 30HP and that was great for towing and driving around. I am concerned that this tune I am running is much stronger (SOTP). If I could modulate the throttle through EFILive such that the first 50% provided say what 30% would normally give, then the last 50% would catch back up so to speak ...

Thanks in advance for suggestions,

I think 100hp is pushin it with the Transgo jr..
I would say "safe" is 75 extra hp.
