well here's the question, i figured this would save some time. when taking apart the front diff. we slid the long axel out, then broke the case in half leaving the short axel sticking through the other half of the case into the carrier. we tried every way in the world to get that axel out without using any uncessary force. but finally i got mad and drove it out the other side tearing up a little snap ring about as big in diameter as a jumbo paper clip. LOL was there any other way to get it out? whats that little clips purpose...assembly?

that little clip holds the axle in. Should be available from your dealer.

With out it, the stub shaft can move in and out and potentially cause a leak

Yup, I keep a couple on hand justin casehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

If you ever do this again, try removing the stub first. Use the long side as a pedestal to stand on end, and wiggle the stub in and out a few times before attempting to drive it out.

When I did mine, I ended up torching out the center pin so we could beat it out from the inside. The next one that I did came out smoothly using the method above...

Just be sure you slide the terminals into the plastic connector BEFORE you put the diff back up in place.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

As an added note, I'll be carrying these diffs (with new bearings installed) in stock soon. I just need to figure out how to get them here in good shape. The Eaton packing leaves the wiring quite vulnerable to getting beaten around in the box...
