I have a 2002 GMC Duramax Diesel in the last six months I have seen the fuel milage drop from 18 mpg down to 16 mpg what could be the cause of this. Thanks

my 04 has dropped from 24 to 22, ULSD is to blame I would think, only thing that changed

Could be injectors. How many miles and have you ever had your injectors changed? If so, when?

The problem started after having a broken ring in the transfer case repaired. I just talked to the mechanic and he said it could be the new program they put in the truck that may have changed the shift pattern. Does this sound logical

Problem is the new fuel we are stuck with.

I dont think its the fuel....The lubricity still meets the Bosch levels. The additives are added......I have run both the 500ppm and 15ppm fuels with zero difference in the two...

Dump some ATF in. I finally tryed it and if picked my MPG's back up.
Only run one empty talk with it but I was getting around 14-15mpg  and the tank I ran ATF in I got 18.5mpg. Just ran 300+miles empty, then hooked on o my 33' tandem dually and pulled it 120mi empty, loaded it with 10K or so and pulled another 50mi and got 13.5mpg. Seems better that before. Just hooking on to the trailer was dropping it to 10mpg  .
