When you use the remote starter on the LMM does it allow time for the glow plug to warm?

If it was installed Right, Mine(LBZ) is hooked up to the glow plug light.
Make sure the auto starter is for a Diesel, Good luck

Is there even a glow plug light on the LLM? I haven't noticed it, and I've looked for it a few times. I guess that I should probably read the manual.

Yes there is a glow plug light. You might never see it depending on how cold it gets in your area.

ya most of your remote starts will have a delay feature like 3-5 seconds so that the glow plugs have time to warm up you should be fine

Guys I think he is talking about the FACTORY remote starter ;)

I would have to assume that the factory programmed it to wait till the glow plugs are heated up

or maybe Im wrong and he isnt talking about the factory remote starter?

It seems to delay a bit on cooler mornings when I have used it.

I would pretty much guarantee that GM would wait for the wait to start light to go off before it starts.

Farmer Dave, do you have any pics of your truck? Didn't see a garage of yours...Looking at getting my first GMC Duramax CC/SB 4X4, and was wondering if I went with an '06 or '05, could I get a GM remote start put in?? I want a reliable integrated system, and don't want aftermarket....Love your truck, but can't afford a brand new one (I think). About how much did you pay, and what options did you get? Thanks!!!

Please tell me why on earth would you want a factory remote start in an 05 or 06 truck? The Astrostart units are top of line units that integrate directly to the GM computer via a data line. The security bypass kits that are available do everything and more than the factory units. And furthermore the factory units have a range of 250ft direct line of sight. So other than the window of your house to the driveway, it's USELESS! Go with an Astrostart and you'll never regret it. Oh, and if a dealer tells you that you can void warranty by adding one, tell them that's BS and illegal. It's just a scare tactic.

It is not possible to retrofit a 2007.5 factory remote start to a 2001-2007 duramax

You have a truck towed in seven times with an aftermarket remote start and that's the first thing they blame. It was a defective 5volt output to the Cam sensor but everyone (6 dealers) said it may be related to the remote start and simply changed the sensor. After I removed the remote start, the last dealer followed the tech routine of checking the ECM outputs and wiring and found it.

AND, with the factory system, it's under warranty anywhere we go. I have several with aftermarket starters and there are too many variables between installers and their workmanship for me to not have gotten the factory system when it's available.

There is an upgrade available for the factory GM unit. It's pretty decent. Bumps the range to +/-1500ft. The new remote fob looks like the factory unit. Have been moving a few with no complaints.

As far as a dealer blaming the r/s immediately, that tells me they are lazy. I have seen/heard it before so I understand your concern. However a properly installed r/s by a qualified tech is literally undetectable. It really sucks that one has to be stuck with an inferior product because the dealer's service dep't have they head up their a$$.

So the Astrostart is "factory reliable"? That's all I am concerned about. I see two camps here, one that says aftermarket is superior/reliable, and the other says stay with factory... I don't know who to believe...I would agree that the dealer would have an argument with the non factory piece possibly causing a problem. They control the acceptance/denial of any warranty issues in general. What is the reason, hemisareslow, for the bad feeling on the factory remote start?

There are laws in both USA and Canada that control companies from denying warranty claims based on aftermarket products. GM cannot deny warranty on anything unless they can prove without a doubt that the failure of the part in question was directly caused by the aftermarket addition. I have many customers that have traded into a new vehicle with the factory remote and have told me that they want their old remote starter back. No range and unreliable are the biggest complaints. I have installed Astrostarts into the '07 Tahoe, Yukon, Sierra and Silverado. I have yet to do an Avalanche. All work flawlessly with the 2000ft plus range and have no issues. If you're leary about adding to your vehicle, I suggest you wait a few months until Astrostart and Bypass come out with their new year products. This usually happens in late August. Maybe just for giggles, go your dealer and test drive a unit with factory remote start. See if it works when you're in the back of the Walmart and your truck is at the far end of the parking lot. See if it works when your at work and your truck is down the street. I bet the GM unit won't work but I GUARANTEE that an Astrostart unit will. Please don't jump into a factory unit because of the worry about warranty issues. It's a scare tactic from the dealer.
