Are they good or bad? How about step height? How do they compare to aftermarket? Are they chrome plated steel or SS?
I need some steps soon.

If you want "Top of the Line" check out "PUTCO BOSS BARS" stainless and Heavy Duty. As the saying goes you get what you pay for. These are expensive but I have em and think that they're worth the $$$.

I was going to buy aftermarket untill I saw the 6" oval SS GM bars. IMO they look really good and they are covered under your warranty for 3 years. GM also makes different bars that are cheaper but don't look as good. They seem to be placed fairly well to step on.

I have a 'classic', and got it with the factory step bars (dealer installed). These are just plain round ones, supposed to be ss, but I got black painted to match my truck. On a stock set up, the step is about 16 inches off the ground and there's a flat plastic insert on the top that's about 2 1/2" wide. So far so good, nice and solid but they won't wow anyone. It's cab length, ends at the start of the bed. Gotta think it wouldn't be too tough to luck into a deal on take offs.

16" off the ground on stock suspension sounds like a lot. This is a concern since my wife is short.

THESE (http://www.runningboardwarehouse.com/) are what I was looking to buy but have not received any feedback as yet. They have four SS support brackets and will take 600lbs weight. (no she doesn't weigh 600lbs:eek: )

I will look into Putco and Dealsofsteel units.

Thank you for the quick replies.

Hey DZ,
There is a guy on ebay has the same board for 349.00 shipping included.

I was going to put the same board on my 07 . But, Instead went with the new style gm oval boards from the dealer ship. They were already here and easy to install. Took only 20 minutes or so for both boards. Costly though
(511.00) But they are nice. Have a nice day!!

Well, It turns out they are both the same , just a cheaper price thru ebay,, Good luck !!

Putco Boss Bars are just 4" tubes as opposed to the more common 3" tubes. They still use the same T304 stainless steel.

Be aware that some are carbon steel (will rust), some are stainless steel (won't rust), and a few are aluminum. Your best bet is stainless steel although a little more expensive.

Running boards are nice and different than the usual tube steps.

If you like the more "industrial" look, you might like NFabs (carbon steel) or GoRhino Dominator II (like NFabs but stainless steel).

I just took the OEM bars off my 06' Sierra and put a set of boards off of a Yukon XL on mine. The OEM bars are for sale if your interested. I'd sell them for around $ 100.00 plus whatever it cost to ship them if you're interested.
