: New Burb
mangus580 06-03-2007, 11:42 AM Just wanted to announce I purchased the wifes new wheels yestarday... a 99 K2500 Suburban :-) I flew out to Ohio and drove it home. Has 96k on it, and runs pretty decent. When we were driving back from the airport with it though, the SES light came on. We stopped at a garage and had it scanned. The mechanic said the 3 codes were something along the lines of a 'fuel overflow', 'fuel underflow' and 'turbo controller fault'. His opinion was that a new fuel filter would probably clear it all up. I am going to grab one today, and have the light reset, and see what happens. I will say, that even with the SES on the whole trip, I did get 17mpg....
After I get the computer scanned again, I will get the real codes for everyone to get their input.
nvmtnlion 06-03-2007, 03:08 PM Congrats on the purchase! Make sure you don't lose the small screen at the bottom of the fuel filter bowl since it tends to stick in the fuel filter and can get accidentally thrown away. Don't ask how I know. (Thanks Dave).
You might also want to check and make sure your lift pump is working properly.
Sounds like a nice truck that will be a lot of fun.
mangus580 06-03-2007, 09:37 PM New fuel filter fixed the light... within 5 minutes. Only one code showing on this scan (or the autozone tech is incompitent). Shows the following:
P0236
The PCM has determined that the input voltage for boost pressure sensor "A" is out of range for the current engine operating conditions.
Any ideas?
Turbine Doc 06-04-2007, 09:26 AM Yup go to FAQ and read up on WG operation/troubleshooting, P0236 is the boost summary code need to trouble shoot where boost comes from, 1st mod will be gauge so you know if boost error is real or indicated only, do you have a lot of sustained black smoke on acceleration
mangus580 06-04-2007, 09:30 AM Doesnt seem to be excessive smoke. Oddly enough the new fuel filter seems to have kept the code at bay now. I will have to save up for the boost gauge, as I am a little short right now.
I am hoping to toss a boost, pyro, and wvo fuel level in a 3 pod pillar at some point. (planning a frybrid kit for it)
Turbine Doc 06-04-2007, 09:43 AM Couple of members in your area with scan tools I think, check the scan tool locator sticky, scan tool will give you what PCM is seeing record what you see vs rpm & post here; a few of us will be able to tell if what PCM is seeing is in expected range of operation.
mangus580 06-04-2007, 10:05 AM I will have to wait for it to toss the code again, I had the guy at Autozone reset it yestarday. I looked throught he scan tool post, but didnt find anyone near me. Although I suspect I could make the 1.5 hour drive to SSD
93_Burrito 06-04-2007, 11:43 AM mangus580,
The scanner they used at your AutoZone to pull codes most likey can't read the enhanced GM codes. My local AutoZone doesn't use one that's capable, that's why I'm bringing it up. Not trying to scare you or anything....
Turbine Doc 06-04-2007, 12:22 PM No you will need someone with a bi-directional tool AZ et als tools just pull codes, also look at Auto enguniuity site for a laptop software tool that you can scan with,
Most mechanics have a Snap On scanner or other Tech 2 clone, might have to pay them to collect a scan while driving but will be cheaper than a dealer scan
Veg_Out 06-04-2007, 03:45 PM When you buy the Frybrid Kit, be sure to spring for the Frybrid Fuel pump too. I didn't, as it wasn't available when I ordered and I just spent this last weekend rebuilding my Mallory Veggie pump. If not the Frybrid, just keep an extra of whatever you buy, because I guarantee it will fail.
Good luck to you.
mangus580 06-04-2007, 03:53 PM How much extra is the Frybrid pump?
Have any pics of your install? Any tips on installing the kit?
mike0000 06-04-2007, 08:41 PM I just got finnished posting on the Frybrid sight about my Mallory taking a dump on me this past week, then I see this thread. I have a home brewed WVO conversion on my 99' Burb. I guess the Mallorys must not be the way to go, I found that the brushes were shot after only 8K Miles.
I love my Suburban and it runs well on Veggie just has a few Quirks that I can live with (it idles higher on hot veg., and I may have a waste gate issue). Relocate the PMD before going Veggie.
Congrats on the purchase,
Mike
