: Power Programmers

So since I'm in the market for bigger tires and exhaust I figure I need to get a power programmer to change the speedo so that it'll read right. That is my main goal of a programmer unit as I don't feel that I really need the extra power for this diesel. But....since I'll be getting a programmer which of the choices does the best with fuel mileage and driveability on the lower power levels?

One other question. Once you use the programmer you can unplug it and take it out of the truck right? it doesn't have to be left plugged in does it?

i run the bullydog powerpup on 80 hp setting (performance setting) all the time. it improved my mileage and i think makes truck run better. Yes once you run the programmer you can unplug it and take it out of the truck

The Quad 135 is a plug in and play deal. I leave it on 90 HP most of the time unless someone wants to see whatit will do on 135 HP. It can change the shift points, tire size, and speed limiter.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

Step on the pedal a little harder!!! You will easily feel an 80hp increase!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Hmm after much reading it seems like either the Quad tuner or the diablosport predator is the way to go. Guess I gotta wait for predator to come out with a lly version or get the Quad but there isn't any info on their site as to whether the quad works on the lly engines.

Just a note on the predator.. I have it and sat at the track for over an hour saturday because it flashed that if couldn't find my vin number.. I kept going to recover data and it finally reloaded.. For that hour the truck wouldn't move... It won't even let the starter engage.. This was the fourth time it's happened to me.. First time, the truck was down about 20 minutes.. 2nd was atleast an hour and a half.. Third and fourth was about an hour.. The predator can't be sold either.. When you load it in your truck the first time, it's permanently mated to it.. I would go another route..

Quadzilla has a tuner for both engines.

When you say it can change the shift points, what do you mean?

If I keep the truck in drive and floor it all the way through the gears, will it change the shift RPM?

Or is it if I manualy hold the shifter in a gear, that it will increase RPM?

Being able to change the shift points means that you can raise or lower the engine RPM at which the transmission shifts. For example, if your truck shifts from 1st to 2nd at 2600 RPM at wide open throttle, you could change it to shift at 2700 RPM to increase 1/4 mile times etc. although you could also decrease performance so to do it properly you need to do some testing. I had a hypertech for my 5.3L Chevy Silverado that could do this, so I'm not sure what the RPM limits are on the diesel as far as how many RPM you can raise or lower for each gear. Hope this helps.

Does the quad tuner lock itself to my VIN like the predator does?
I read about that and didn't think it'd be aproblem besides only
getting to use it on one truck but if it's going to cause me to not be
able to start my truck I don't want it.

Fast learn. That is what is gives you the option of. It clears the tap cells. However I am not sure if it resets the tap cells to anything worth while.

The quad does raise the rev limiter. If you pull it down to 1 rst and floor it untill about 3800 it moves like a bat out of hell when you shift into second.

The Quad does not change shift points, I dont know of anything out there that changes shift points. The Quad will raise the rev limiter in the higher tunes which will happen if you hold it in a gear or in 5th gear.
