I have 2 duramaxes in 2006 chevy vans if that helps.
both get between 17 and 21 mpg depending on the winter or summer fuel.
and highway or stop and go.
they have great power for a van.

Does anyone have a Duramax van with the optional K08 fuel-operated auxilliary heater?

If so, can it operate without the engine running?

I have one. Milage and power are great. I have had 2 recalls done to it, glow plug flash and seat belt covers.

The heater only works when the engine is running.

I have a dura-express. I have 55k miles and have been encountering a weird problem.

I have had the van in the shop three times....first time being towed. The hoses to the turbo collapse on the inside of the hose, these are some kind of composite hose.

Last time.... no code and recovered. Dealer couldn't make van repeat problem. That time was towing 1000k lbs at 75-80 mph.

Weird.... this problem makes vanes inside turbo go all the way 'open' loses power and makes a noise like tranny is slipping.

All in all good van as long as they eventually figure this out. I am sure it is because putting the duramax in the van was a hack job as opposed to silverados were designed for diesels.

Love my van. Zero problems. Great power and last tank was 21.5 MPG.

I believe I've experienced this same problem. I believe this is not a problem. If you are in tow haul mode, the fan clutch would engage just before you attempt to put some gas after coasting. The fan engages and it makes a loud roaring noise with no apparent increase in engine power. This makes you feel like your engine is revving like crazy but you don't feel any increase in power. So, your natural conclusion, as mine has been, is to assume the tranny is slipping.

However, when you hook up a tach, you will find that there is no increase in RPM accompanying the loud roar. This is just the fan clutch engaging in anticipation of increased engine heat when in tow-haul mode.

Next time, listen carefully. You will be able to distinguish that this is not engine RPM noise, but rather fan noise.

I thought fan at very first. Extreme loss of power is a give away it is not. GM has a TSB on this for replacing the hoses. Dealer at first did the one hose. Second time, Dealer did all hoses (both of these times there was a CEL and threw codes) Third time.... the truck recovered and did NOT throw codes. HHHmmmmm that third time 'could' have been a hot day with a fan screw up. I HATE the fan in my van. I get none of this in my LB7 C4500.

Buying a LMM in two weeks, so I will have three different Duramaxes at once.

Running a v-nose 14ft box, I do not use tow/haul. only 2k lbs.
