While I'd love to have a 500 HP truck, it's just not in the cards for me. Hell, I think I'm doing really well just to be driving one of these trucks at all!

Anyway, I'm in the market for a relatively mild "chip" (which means tuner, module, etc.) for my 2004.5 LLY D/A. I'm going to leave the trans stock, so I don't think I'd better go over about 70 HP to be on the safe side.

What would you guys suggest?

The Edge/Attitude looks good due to the adjustability/user friendliness/built-in safeguards, but I'd like to be able to reprogram for non-stock tires and see error codes, etc. I'm also interested in better milage, maybe even more so than big power gains.

My local performance dealer is really pushing the Quadzilla as the "ticket" for me, but I can't seem to decide.

Please help!

J/A and a couple of used ones in 'Forsale' so u can save some money.

What size tires ?

285s, just do the speed limit and u will have the built in overage 5mph @60-65mph.

coyotekid,

Unfortunately no box or programmer will do everything for a cheap
price. You have to make a decision about what you are willing to
sacrifice for price. I LOVE my Juice with Attitude, but I'm not
worried about codes. I know people that own Tech II's so if I
really need to get a code read, I'd start making phone calls and
begging.

The Juice on level 1 will increase your fuel economy, and it does have
a feature to display actual speed based on tire size, but it won't
change your instrument cluster. If you got a used Juice/Attitude,
you might be able to pick up a budget code reader, some are around
$150.00 or less, and pretty functional at that level. Not a huge
investment there.

What is your budget, then people may be able to make some more suggestions.

IMO TTS tow tune, not the cheapest but you won't have to worry about
your trans. If you decide on the J/A or any other 100-120hp box you
will need to excercise self control and run it on the lower power
levels. You really need to look at more than just a specific power
level when deciding, just because a tuner or module gives you 70
additional rwhp doesn't make it right for you, you need to look at the
hp/tq curve. 70 additional rwhp at 3k rpm will perform differently than
70 additional rwhp at 2k rpms.

How 'bout a Predator on one of those lower tunes? Codes, Dmax specific codes, clear codes, tire size, speed limiter to 110, real-time data. All for about 300 bucks or so. No wires, unload for dealer. Only problem will be refraining from loading the top tune. Pred is a bit of an egt-monster though, imo.

I've only run the LLY Edge and the LLY TTS Tow Tune.

I love the features of the Edge, but on some trucks (mine is one) you might have some drivibility issues. Mine exhibited turbo bark, and some erratic shifting, which I think may be related. Just not as smooth as a stock truck. The production release did not throw codes on mine. If you can put up with these occassional glitches, you'll be very happy with it.

The TTS Tow Tune is... uh... for a lack of a better word, perfect for my truck. As smooth (if not in fact smoother) than the stock tune, minimal smoke, no reduction in mileage (might have increased), significant improvement in off-the-line acceleration, no worries towing uphill in the desert on 100 deg days at high speeds. It keeps the trans in 5th gear on all but the steepest hills. Set the cruise at 75mph, and it just flies up hills at 17,000lb combined. It removes the speed limiter, and IIRC, TTS will set the speedo for your tire size. If there is any downside, it's that you must swap PCM's. TTS edits the program on your PCM. I've heard in the future, it will be available as a handheld uploader like it is with the LB7.

You will most likely enjoy driving your truck more with the TTS, IMO.

I'm with RaceHemi TTS tow tune. Do some searches on TTS, very good
reports from all that use it. I would love to put the J/A but I'm
afraid I would not be able to keep my foot out of it. Would be a new
tranny for sure. The tow tune is set at 60 hp (which is safe for your
trans) and can set your tire size. It does have a down side as it can
not be removed as easy as J/A

I'm with these guys on the TTS. It runs the coolest (lowest EGTs) as well. Problem is you need an extra PCM for taking it to the Stealer. Worth its weight in GOLD however for smooth running power with no gliches. I would do it again in a heartbeat. You do it now or you do it latter.

Do you guys have any experience with Wester's Garage?

I know that their products are highly thought of for the gas engines, but I don't seem to hear much about them for the diesels. He can do virtually everything I want, but I'd like some real world feedback on his products.

Thanks for all the other good info, I'm looking into the TTS deal!

So that is why I went with the Quad.

I received my Tow Tune yesterday and have had the chance to install it and then have a little fun. My conclusion so far is simply AWESOME!<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I would have to agree to all the statements above. If you are looking for a little more power, drivability and something that really wakes the Duramax up then call Steve @ TTS!!! It might take a few weeks to get but the wait is well worth it...

Thanks Steve!!

So how much is The TTS Tow Tune and a new PCM? It's probably what I'm looking for from what I have been reading. I have a LB7.

I've been in contact with TTS and they are coming out with a handheld programmer(tuner?) after the first of the year. I like everything I read about their tow tune, just don't want to have to fool around with changing out PCM's to go to the stealer since my wife drives my(?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif) truck on long trips on a regular basis.

Steve, hurry!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

This is my first diesel so I'm also weighing the benefits of all of the tuning available. I deal with aftermarket products and use the Predator and Westers programming alot. Haven't done much with the TTS programming but I'll be giving Steve a call soon. I can't seem to leave anything that I drive alone but I don't want to turn this into a race truck. 375 rear wheel hp and and 600ft-lb of torque will be good (for a week :) ). Plus the mileage increase will be light years ahead of what I see with my 8.1s. I just don't want to deal with any codes or driveability issues. I tow a boat and 10,000lb car hauler once in awhile so it needs to be reliable.

I'm starting to collect mods for when the truck arrives (just ordered my 4.56 gears today) so I have a few weeks to decide on programming.
