I just sold my Banks Six Gun w/ PDA and I love the Bully Dog! The install was very easy to do and looks very professional. I used the optional A pillar mount. I will be posting some pictures when I get a chance. Love the internet updates. In fact it already had an update and was very easy to do. Now on to the good stuff.

The power that the Bully Dog adds is fantastic. I have been running on the performance setting and am very happy with the results. Seat of the pants feel it seems to be a little faster than the Banks on lvl 4. It definitely puts out more black smoke when I get on it hard then the Banks did. Fuel mileage I haven't run a full tank through yet so I'm not sure on that. According to the DIC it's getting 22 but I'm sure that's off some. Soon as I get some hand calculated numbers I will post them on here. The truck is a little noisier when it's cold but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The only real problem I have is that I definitely need an exhaust now. Cruising down the EGT's are about 700 or so. Depending on the wind they might jump to 800 or 850. Not bad for stock exhaust. However, when I really get on it hard it started defueling on me. Then I checked the settings and it was set to defuel at 1250 from the factory. So I bumped that to 1350 and haven't had any trouble but it still doesn't take much to bump 1300 on the EGT's. So now I know what my next upgrade is! :D

If you guys have any questions don't be afraid to ask. I will answer them as best I can. And I will post pics tonight.

I'm going to stack that Banks with the Predator set on the 40 tune and see how it runs. I'll prolly play with it for this year and then go with a switchable custom tune over the winter time. When are you going to get that tranny done so you can really play with the higher tunes? ;)

Very cool set up :thumb: I like that monitor a lot. Anxious to hear how you like it when you have had a chance to play with it more.

Transmission shifts fantastic! Very smooth and didn't have any trouble learning the extra power at all. I was really impressed because I thought that it would be really rough at first similar to how the Predator is.

Dutch, I won't be able to get the tranny done anytime soon. :( Of course it's for a good reason though. Weddings tend to cost a lot. :D

Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm glad you guys like it also cause I love the way it looks and performs!

Got mine coming hopefully tomorrow. I can't wait! Did you get the pyrometer installed or was that easy to put in as well?

Put it in today. It is sweet! Great power throughout all the ranges. I love the gauge package. It seemed a bit loud idling when the engine was cold. Once it warmed up though, it got almost as quiet as stock.

Yeah the Bully Dog does add a little more rattle to the motor. You can really tell if you change it from Tow to Stock while it's idling. I like the way it sounds though.

I called BD to find out about the Crazy Larry a couple of weeks ago because I could not figure out how get the tune from my BD update app to the SD card that goes into the PMT. They told me the CL for PMT was not out yet.

Does this unit come with the pyro probe or is it extra. how difficult is it to install, Is there a towing mode and if so what hp is it.

hahler2
08-27-2007, 09:20 PM
Yes it does come with a pyro probe. It is extremely simple to install everything. I don't remember how long it took me but it wasn't very long. They tell you in the instruction manual to make sure that you check the internet and make sure the PMT is up to date. MAKE SURE YOU DO THAT. Otherwise you'll have problems. It has 4 modes. Stock, Tow, Performance, and Extreme. I believe that Tow level is about 40 hp.

what is the differences in all of the different bully dog stuff? i heard the triple dog was real good

Dirtymax81

power levels of the pmt are same as the tripple dog.. mainly the PMT is a programmer and display all in 1.. color screen, adjustable on the fly, it will have more options down the road like nitrous control and touch screen

deadsquirrel

so the pmt is a chip while the triple dog is a programmer correct?

hahler2
08-28-2007, 10:30 AM
No they are both programmers. However the Triple Dog has no build in monitor and you have to plug it back in to change the power levels on the fly. The PMT you can do it right from the monitor in your truck. Basically if you already have a set of gauges and don't mind not being able to easily change tunes on the fly go with the triple dog. If you don't have any gauges in your truck, get the PMT.

I appreciate you posting your experience with the Bully Dog PMT. I've been interested in getting a programmer every since I got my truck. Having read alot about the various tuners, I am now leaning towards the Bully Dog PMT. It has all of the features that I want, guages, adjust on the fly, safety defueling and tire size recalibration.

I also like the Edge EVO, but you can't adjust it on the fly. Have you noticed any differences in your fuel mileage? I would love to be able to get improved mileage for everyday driving, but be able to flip a switch and get the power boost when desired.

Dmaxdriver: If you going to leave it stock and boost it up when you want power you going to have a problem with the Allison, The ford and Dodge guys may take advantage of it but the Allison with its adaptive learning is going to cry with the new power, so you'll have to run with the power for a while before it shifts right. I found it better to have it in one high setting and just leave it there. When you go to tow with a heavy load and a stock trany, going down in power the trany will not hunt shifts and cause damage like going up and start racing when the temptation arrives.

I've had some different results on the mileage front. The big thing is how you drive it. If I'm in Minnesota where the speed limit is 55 in most area's I can get 21 mpg pretty easy on the Performance level. Around here in South Dakota the speed limit is 65. Most of the time I drive 70. However, I have found that slowing down to 65 and not letting the motor rev over 2000 rpm on acceleration I can get around 17 - 18 mpg on Performance lvl. Now just last night I installed TxC's cold air intake and I've heard from most people that that is good for 1 to 2 mpg. I'll keep track over the next few tanks of fuel and let you guys know what I find.

Had mine installed and had it on the Dyno from stock through the Extreme setting. Also added the Full Bore Exhaust Manifold and Silverline Turbo back, and blocked the EGR. The Exhaust update gave me 21 additional lbs of twist in the Tow Mode. Have not drove it much since the updates due to being out of town.
Stock 280 HP 475 Tq
Tow w/ Updates 337 HP 639 Tq
Performance 370 HP 663 Tq
Extreme 388 HP 712 Tq

Can't wait to drive it. It sounds totaly different, kind of like a Jet Dryer at a NASCAR race. My wife even loves the New sound.
Thanks, Larry and Mark @ Danville Performance!

Thanks for the replys and additional info. I am concerned about damaging the Allison. It makes sense to leave it in a power setting for the Allison to learn. Putting 600 - 700+ ft.lbs. of torque to the rear wheels has got to be a tranney killer. Does the PMT defuel for tranney slippage (I think that the Edge Juice does)? Is there anything that can be done to protect the stock Allison short of replacing it with a $4K Suncoast tranney?
