After looking at the original photo in my above post I decided it was to dark and replaced it with one closer to what the filter really look like. The filter is a little darker than the photo shown. Need to practice with the flash.

I have not been able to get a good picture of mine either. Just changed my lift filter (30 micron) with 7500 miles and the OEM with 15000. Both looked worse than last time.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif I thought the OEM would get better as it had the entire run with the lift filter in front of it. The lift looked worse, but had 7500 vs. the 6200 on the first lift filter. I think I will go to a 5k change out on it since it looked used up for sure. I did not have the streaks or half used OEM like shown above. It was solid black. I know that is because the filter is actually full of fuel (what a concept huh?) but I expected it to be lighter. Might consider changing to a 10 micron lift pump filter and changing it at 5k. Decisions, decisions.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif I guess I will have to pull the Mega next time as well and see what's up with it. Everyone that has cut one open before 40k has said it would go longer, but I will be at around 37k then next round. What do you guys think?

My Mega has been in place for just over 18,000 now. I was planning to let it go at least 30,000 before pulling it. If I fit it into my regular 15,000 mile OEM filter routine it will be closer to 45,000 before I pull and I don't think that's going to be a problem.

Chuntag95,

I believe I have the same setup you have, at 8,000 miles the 30 mic lift filter was half used up, the OEM (with 12,000 miles on it) was completely dark. The OEM ran 4,000 miles with no lift.

I am going for 10,000 miles on both, see what happens.

Was planning to replace the Mega when I get 20,000 miles on it, sounds like I may be able to extend further.

I hear the mega is good for 40k at least. I wish I could tell better on the 30 micron lift pump filter. The first one looked like it was good to go longer, but the second one looked ready for sure at 7500. It was just strange to have them both be darker. I think I will do a 5k on the lift and see. Maybe I just got some nasty fuel on this 7500?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

if I were you guys with 30 Micron filters I'd swap them out for a 2 Micron filter. I like the Cat filter, its 2 micron and big. Also looks like a couple of you need to be looking for a another fuel supply/ your OEM as a secondary filter shouldn't get very dirty and still needs to be changed at 15K to satisfy warranty requirements or least thats the way I i nterpret the book. Filters are a lot cheaper than injectors. Good luck with your choices and keep us posted.

Bill,

I am running 3 filters: FM100 lift with filter (30 mic), OEM (5 mic or whatever it is) and Mega (1-2 mic). I don't really worry about the first 2, I want them to get dirty. Since the system is pressurized the entire OEM filter is used, which I think is good.

Most stations in my area are pretty high volume and previous filter examinations don't warrant a change of stations (I use the same one when I am at home). Where I go camping there isn't a lot of choice, you get what you get, so I want as much filtration I can get.

Anyway, those of us who are running secondary filtration are doing as much as we can. Hope it pays off.

I changed the picture in the original post again. This picture is with natural light and is a little fuzzy but fairly accurate in color. Will open the OEM up later and see if I can get pictures of what the filter looks like deep in the pleats.I have the old age tremor and need to use the tripod more often to avoid the blur you see in original post.

Hey, maybe that's the best way to see how the filters did. Cut them in half and check from outside to the center. Great idea Bill.

Here's a shot of the filters with some of the pleats opened/exposed. Notice the OEM is just starting to show a little darkness on the bottom edge of the filter whiule the CAT is evenly colored This shot was with natural light (no sun). http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/BillGisse/2004-10-12_100505_IMG_0249.JPG

Thats the way my first OEM filter looked like at 5K prior to installation of Nick's filter kit.
