So ole JJ stopped by a truck options store in J'ville yesterday looking for some accessories for the beast, err I mean truck. The owner had just purchased a 2005 Silverado 2500 4x4 cc D/A, less than 100 miles on it. Nice truck! He didn't stock accessories, just performance stuff, boxes, nurf bars, etc. So we started talking mods.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif
He already purchased the edje/juice, huge tires and rims, and new exhaust for his truck. He had no idea he would have to recalibrate for the larger tires (JJ was looking smart!). He then offered to sell me the edje/juice for $650, not a bad price, but I told him I was only looking for a simple tow tune. He told me I would still have to upgrade the exhaust even with a tow tune. I disagreed. Was he trying to sell me something I didn't need? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif It gets more interesting!
The truck salesman told him the reason some guys were overheating their LLY's was because they weren't keeping the tranny coolers clean. You know that peaked JJ's curiosity, then he mentions the cooler is under the truck behind the gas tank and gets lots of dirt on it. That did it, I said show me. Dang if there isn't a black box behind the gas tank, JJ didn't know wtf it was so I couldn't slam him on that. What is that black box? However, this moron didn't know there was a tranny cooler in front of the stack. So I popped the hood on his truck and ran the lines down for him. Could have sworn I heard his testacles tucking themselves up deep inside! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif The thrill of victory!
He then tells me I can install the edje/juice, run it at level 5, and never hurt the Allison. "My buddy races his with all kinds of mods and has never hurt it!" I mentioned that the Allison can slip in 1st and 5th gears given too much torque, he countered "but the edge won't allow that to happen", OK that was a draw! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
I mentioned the DP forum and the intel on the site, he countered with I like to talk to somebody "personally" that knows what they are talking about. I'm thinking, so would I! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
This guy's shop has been in business for years, he is selling sh_t to guys that he has no idea how it works, maybe ole JJ needs to open another business? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif This makes 2 truck options businesses I have either used or been to that don't know their a$$e$ from their elbows! Took me three trips to get my brush guard installed properly, they ordered in boards for a cc versus ext cab, couldn't even get the right mud flaps! Uh oh, Mama JJ ain't going to be happen I'm getting the itch to start another business! Will advise. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
I've been cruising and posting on DP for a few months now and am always impressed at the extent of technical knowledge and cooperation displayed by the members. You guys have no idea how dangerous you have made ole JJ with the knowledge you've imparted upon me. I am very comfortable talking with dealer techs, service managers and others when it comes to my truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif I know I've been "easy prey" for these morons in the past, not so easy in the future! Thanks. JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif
