i am looking for a true down pipe, from my turbo to the underside, yet have had hardly any luck finding a 4" as i am trying to build an exhaust to come out in front of the rear tire and not the back of the truck like most systems such as banks does anyone know where i could get one? as i am making the exhaust out of 4" aluminized steel

also what type of gain should i be looking at after the mod?

Not sure anyone makes a true 4" down-pipe. Also, you'll soot up your wheel and tire putting it in front of the tire. Have seen some F*rd guys do this and it makes a real mess of your tire and wheel in a hury...especailly if you are running a power upgrade known to make copius amounts of smoke http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif

CBoyd69,

Welcome to the Place! Where you can find answers to all your questions!

No actual turbo down pipe is available yet. Best you can do now is from the downpipe flange back.
From all the info here, the bigger exhaust really doesn't add HP per-se, its more for getting the EGT's down to reasonable levels...so you don't burn up that turbo. Plus, the bigger exhaust looks slick!
Also, from all I've read here about exhaust, adding the "lead pipe" may add more drone to the system, but that depends on what you onsider excessive noise.
As for exiting out the front, IMO that wouldn't be good with the diesel. Besides soot, you gotta think about excessive noise in-cab and drone.

thanks for the info, so would yall suggest just getting a coupling to upsize from the 3 inch to the 4 inch exhaust or will i need a special flange?

If you look under the truck, you'll see the front pipe has a round flange at the front where it meets the turbo downpipe This is up near the bellhousing of the trans.
Look further back (about at the t-case) and you'll see the 4-bolt flange. Most systems are from this flange back, no adapters needed.
From what I gather, this pipe has the Cat Conv. in it on Cali and 04+ trucks. Most guys with these buy the front pipe to replace the Cat. You can buy the 4" front pipe separately, and it goes in place of your stock pipe, and still has the round downpipe flange in front and 4 bolt flange in back.

It's super simple to replace the exhausts on these trucks. Hardest part for you will be to break the bolts loose, since you're truck is a couple years old.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to take out the pass side shock before you start...it makes removing stock exhaust easier.

Do a search for exhaust info here....theres loads of it. You'll be reading for a while.....we've done comparisons, thers opinions of noise level, everything.

I personally have the MBRP single T-409 system from the 4-bolt flange back and it is very very nice.

CBoyd69,

We have played with a sheet metal true down pipe, no real egt loss or HP gains that we were able to see on a consistent basis on a dyno. So we haven't ever put it together as a part. The 4 inch MBRP we sell has done all anything EGT wise that our customers have ever needed so far etc. Call us if you have any questions, we have the systems in aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless steel, in single 4 inch and dual 4 inch too! Plus we guarantee all of our prices to be the best.
