Not one slam except for Hootie's bic lighter comment in the whole thread? Is this finally a sign of recognition and general acceptance by the goatheads?.. I doubt it, but even those in hardcore denial will have to face up to the increasing number of trucks putting down silly numbers. Fun to watch.

Keep up the good work Juice, hope to soon join the club.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

"BUUUUUT..... it's the BIC lighter of diesels.
I say this because it has not proven to be as reliable as the Cummins."

Just for the record- IMO, the BIC lighter is the most reliable and longest-lasting lighter ever made, far more so than the most expensive or highest tech ones. I have had a lighter fetish for over 20 yrs and have tried all. It's actually frustrating that far fancier designs can't touch it for reliability.

"Unless you have bucks, you don't want to keep a Dmax beyond warranty"

There's quite a few high-mileage Dmaxes out there in just 4 yrs; Give things time. I plan to have mine for many years.

"It is a very different engine, too quiet, but seems to tow well"

Excess noise produced by any machine is usually wasted energy, and usually indicates excessive vibration, or excess force applied to moving parts. The noise from a slammed door, for example, indicates the excess energy and force applied that damages the frame, latch, etc. It's a shame the thing's too quiet; Must not really be producing that power, huh? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I get the same stubborn ignorance from my Ford/gas buddies. They really don't believe the Dmax's do what they do, won't research it, don't understand the technology, and really don't want their old-fashioned beliefs proven invalid. I get more rwhp from a stupid Predator tune then one of them gets from a 472" 460 with $7K worth of parts and work in it.

Sometimes, there is no substitute for modern technology, or IQ, or sometimes, just the Juicegrips'll do her... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

Noticed Hoots comment too?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif Duramax also hasnt proven itself less reliable compared to the cummins other than the injectors. But bottom end? No body knows yet.

JonB,

WELL SAID!!!!

I'd like to go back to when the Cummins was first put in Rams and see what was said about it back then....probably the same sh*t theyre saying about the DMX now. They all sounded worried and jealous. (esp Hoot)

Lets see:
We don't have to go thru the lower end of the motor and strengthen anything, nor do we have to port the heads or modify the intake in any way to make 500HP..just run the right box(es).

Damn, ya know, that just plain SUCKS, now doesn't it?

Now, I grant that the Allison should have been built tougher, being behind a diesel and all, but it STILL beats the ever-lovin crap out of that pile-of-sh*t Dodge trans. And ya can always make it stronger!

Plus, we're the stealth-trucks. Those DodgeBoys never saw us sneaking up cause the DMax is so quiet. (or because they're arrogant little pissheads, I can't decide)

Ya don't have to advertise the power, just know how to use it!

Lastly, these are good looking, tough trucks. But then, when the competition only sees your tailgate, how are they to know that?

Juice, You and SD and Daver andTomac and BMDMax and all the rest just keep doing what you're doing....go kick GoatA$$!!!!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Thanks Tom, but i think SD Daver and Tomac are pushing a lot harder than i am..... me, i am just bumbling along in comparison (Blowing stuff up Juicegrips etc). But it's all good.... we seem to be gaining in notoriety and victories in pulling, dragracing and dynoing.

PS a lot of them Dodge boys are prety decent and do respect what a tuned DMX can do, no matter what some say on the net. Heck, i run with a CTD club and they enjoy seeing what a DMX can do, and are a great group to hang with (Especially when a TDR member at an event who does not know about me or the truck start making snide comments about it..... then the BOMBers look at him and say...watch it run... then talk smack if you are higher)

I have a lot of respect for the CTD, and they are also giving the DMX it's due (sheepishly of course)

In the end we all run Diesel.... and oil in the crankcase (unless you are talking about the Ford crowd) Ford is as Ford Does.

And that's all that matters.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Also, hoots post about higher revving?

TOTAL BS! 3200 RPMS is 3200RPMS whether it is an inline6 or a v-8

Unless he is talking about piston speed he is talking out his hootie hole.

Yes we do have more cubes... and yes aluminum heads are helping with both timing and EGT's that the iron heads are intolerant of.

But that just means GM (and Isuzu) may have done their homework on the engine design.....

Juice, just remember, you're doing what you're doing because you're the un-official Official GM Turbo Test Pilot!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif I for one applaud your guts for grenading 4 of them. Ya gotta find the limits of the equipment.

DMX is getting it's due.....

One thing for sure Tom.. i know where the safe limit is for an LB7 turbo.... and know enough not to go higher or suffer the consequences..*L*

I am Glad that Dodge and the CTD are as good as they are, as it has forced GM to ask for help in diesel design, and with ISUZU they got it... a really well engineered package with very few compromises in design

And let's face facts.... if GM did not get this diesel right, they would never have another diesel pickup truck... nobody would trust it. The DMX is not perfect, but there are less compromises than i personally expected with it. Isuzu has a great rep in the commercial heavy diesel world, not quite as stellar as scaterpillar or Cummins, but nonetheless they have nothing to be ashamed about in this design. Injectors ... well i think the USA could use cleaner fuel... mine are just fine!

I was just at a TDR sponsored event in Dillsburg PA. 95% Dodges 1% Ford and 4 % Duramax...you get the picture. Well the dyno was moving fast....stock cummins(with minor mods) put down around 275hp. Biggest hp and Torque I saw was 630 hp and 1120 torque from a cummins. The dodge guys were all cool to me....One duramax with just juice nothing else not even exhaust or air mod did around 370 hp and 650 torque. Good group of guys...I felt very welcome there and will go again!

Most of the Dodges had dual stacks going straight up through the bed......

On Edit: Got to hear the Hoot horn again too.

I admire all the guys who are pushing the envelope. I don't have the guts or money to do so. My wife doesn't seem to grasp the necessity for maxing things out, either- "Why do you need a new trans in something that's not even out of warranty yet when it's not broken?" The answer, of course, is the line stolen from me years ago by that Tool Time guy- "More Power".

Bottom line is that both the Dmax and the Cummins are awesome engines and both can be a force to reckon with.

From my exp. the Cummins is a lil quicker off the line than the Dmax cause of turbo lag but powerbrake it and its no problem.

But i also have a Q does the Cummins Tq. curve rise faster than the Dmax (Both with 100 horse tunes on them LLY and 600) or is it the other way around. Not trying to push buttons just wondering?

Got Juice?
10-11-2004, 01:45 AM
Torque rise on the CTD is approximately 13% quicker.

but who benches races torque rise.... as i point out to all my CTD friends.... bottom end torque is great for hauling with, but who tows at 1500 RPMS?

Area under the curve has always meant more than just one high peak! Unless you like 2-stroke power delivery.

More area under the curve means a well executed engine design... more flexibility over varying RPM ranges and easier to drive with less gearbox hunting.Edited by: Got Juice?
