i would suggest doing a search for tech 2..

a tech2 connects to the OBD port and can command a gear for troubleshooting at the dealer.. we use it to lock it in 4th gear to make a long pull on the dyno.

A friend of mine is a GM mechanic and we fooled with a Tech 2 last weekend.

It has controls to select a gear and to lock/unlock the TC (and maybe more, we're just learning it too).

Now, we could not get it to lock the TC in 1st. However, if we
let it shift into 2nd, we could hold it there and lock the TC. I
could drop er down to 1000 RPM and it would hold.....mash on the gas
and she lugged like a manual. Same thing for 3rd, didn't try
other gears.

The purpose is for doing diagnostics and singling out where problems
may be in the tranny. Or for entertaining two goofballs in a
truck on a back country road....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

If you want to play some more and really want tcc in first, put the Tech 2 in hot mode. This test simulates what happens to the Ally after it reaches 259 deg. Won't hurt it.

Thanks, Mike.....we didn't get that far. I had read that elsewhere but
couldn't remember all the details.... Mebbe next weekend http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Are there any "side effects" to Hot Mode? Does it de-fuel the
engine or limit rpms or whatnot to try to save the tranny? Or is
it just lock it & rocket?

Burner....I'll try 4th lock WOT from idle AFTER the tranny is
beefed.....probably slip the hell out of it with comp juice. Got
a lot of work to do over the winter.....
