My truck is a 2001 2500HD Duramax Crew Cab Long Bed with a 6in Lift and 285s on stock rims. It is a very heavy truck with 100k miles. My mileage is about 14mpg. My driving is mostly highway and I do not tow anything. While driving on the highway, I can hear the turbo kick in frequently to maintain 70mph, like when going up a hill. Because of the size of the truck and the lift, I am sure the motor has to work harder to maintain speed, which also effects mileage. Will a programmer such as Predator or Hypertech make a big difference with this? What kind of mileage increase can I expect? Do I need to install a cold air intake? Will these performance upgrades have harmful long term effects on my injectors, injection pump, or turbo? I need to get 250k miles from this truck to get a return on my investment. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Save your money on the cold air intake... Spend that on a programmer such as one you listed. I think you would be the happiest with the Predator, it will do all you are looking for and will increase mpg by a little bit, and you will see more power. I would not think that you will harm the injectors this way as some are running tons more power with no problems. Good luck in your decision... As a rule, as power goes up, longevity goes down.

If youre not towing, I say that make PLENTY of power stock.

You say your truck is heavy, how heavy?

My 2002 CC LB 4x4 only gets 11mpg on the farm and maybe 14 on the highway (on a good day)

Weight clean is just a little over 8500 lbs. Usualy it has a bunch of mud on it.

Have close to 80.000 on it. MIlage before the juice was about the same.

We have two 2004 (LB7) EC LB 4x4's and both get 15mpg on the farm. One of them has a service bed and weighs right at 9000lbs!

Earlier trucks were a lot "saltier" then later model trucks. Would that be where the milage difference comes from too?

I think if you put on a power adder just for fuel economy alone, you would be disappointed. I didn't notice any mileage increases with the Juice either. However, if you are looking for power and performance, you will Love it!!
