: Squeek in steering?

I took my truck into the dealer after removing any altered hp products, for a squeek that I thought was coming from the sterring wheel. I would only squeek when the wheel was straight and when turned to the right, then stop squeeking and squeek again when it was just about fully cranked to the right, but it would not squeek going to the left.

The dealer said that my driver side a-arm top grease zert was completly dry. Now I know I have grease this one fitting at least once since I have owned the truck and I am the first owner with only 13,000 mile. The mechanic was also saying issues of my torsion bars being cranked up and having oversized tires.

I picked up the truck and they told me they put a bunch of grease in there and to drive it for about 50 miles and see if the squeek is still there. I have put about 200 miles on it and I have not been able to get back with them and the squeek is still there. I have had the chance to get under there a couple of times to see what I can find as well as grease the crap out of all of the zerts. With the front end weight off the tires it will not squeek. The sound is deffinitly coming from around the driver side. I am not sure if it is that same grease zert, the steering shaft, or somewhere in the steering wheel. Any ideas?

Also, I am not sure if this is related. But I just noticed that my truck does not have a steering wheel lock on it. When I lifted up the front end I could turn the wheels by hand with the truck off. Did they remove this feature?

Try a can of WD-40 to the steering column. or something.

I had the same problem and the dealer is now replacing my steering shaft as there is a TSB on it. It was posted not that long ago. Try a search

Had the shaft replaced and no squeak or clunk. We'll see with some miles. It seems to be a different design now.

Thanks for the help. I am currently at work for another week but when I get back I will talk to the dealer about this issue and see what they will do about it.

How many replies to a problem does a company have to respond with a recall? It sounds like there may be issues with the steering shaft and possibly the steering pump.
