I'd check the ground wire first.

I checked the wires and all looked ok. When you shut the key off the needle goes to o then when you turn the key on it jumps straight down and stays there I sodded all the connections and the back light works. I then took the probe out of the manifold and it acted mormal then "key on 100 deg key off 0 deg" Then I put the probe back in and it worked for about 1 min then back to being pegged out. Thanks for any input.

NOT SHURE ;but I just put ispro gages in my truck and I recall instructions say"do not solder probe connections "dosent say why . dont know if that has any thing do do with your problem ,just a thought.

How many ohms between the red and yellow wire?

I called auto meter today and they said. "Take the probe out of the manifold and put a volt-ohm meter on the red and yellow wires set it for milli-volts and watch the meter while slowly heating the probe the MV should slowly rise then when you take the heat away the MV should slowly drop". I did that and the MV went up a little then to 0 then back to MV then back to 0. They said that it was a bad probe and it is on the way. What a simple way to test things. I only soddered the wires inside the cab.
