Hi Everyone,<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Where is the cheapest place to buy a new crossover pipe? I don't really care if it is after market or OEM. I got a piece of FOD in my crossover pipe, and I can't get it out. I don't want to re-use it, because I am concerned that it will eventually break free and toast my turbo.

Thanks

I read the downpipe/crossover kit can be had for $86. I might be easier to take the crossover to a shop and have them make a copy in 2 1/2" or find/make the right tool to ream it out.

The FOD I am referring to is a magnet. I was thinking about going to the hardware store and getting some sort of 2 1/2" wire tube brush. Much like the type of brush you use to clean a gun barrel.

Um just curious, how do you get a magnet into your cross-over?? And being a magnet i don't think it would go very far unless it was a fridge magnet. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

the cheapest place to get a flowmaster turbo downpipe crossover kit is 21st century exhaust for $86. they do not have a website. the phone # is 800-276-6399 ask for john. thank spindrift for the reference. when changing the crossover pipe be as careful as possible not to break the bolts. i broke 4 out of 6 bolts which took all day to drill and retap. otherwise it only takes 20 min, you may want to change the gaskets at this time as they are usually damaged. also with this kit you get a turbo downpipe which i would change at this time also ( usually requires a 4 bolt flange gasket $5). this is a good upgrade to get more airflow. if you dont have a 3 or 3.5" exhaust this is a good time to upgrade. just run a 3 or 3.5" straight pipe from the 4 bolt flange out to the back ( omit the cat and muffler).this exhaust pipe can probably had for very cheap at 21st century exhaust also, as they are an exhaust wholesaler. they also carry exhaust tips. hope this helps.

I got my Flowmaster crossover and turbo downpipe kit (from 21st Century, $86+ship) - very nice! Crossover looks simple enough, but I have questions:

What is the proper ('learned', experience from this forum) way to install the downpipe (ie do you remove portions of turbo shield/actuator?)?

What are the comprehensive piece parts, like gaskets that I should buy now before I begin? I see 4 places where potential parts are needed. Gotta sneak around, can't go modifying my truck when the wife's car needs real work . . .

Thanks!

bobt, be prepared to break some bolts when installing the crossover pipe (can take 3-4 hours to drill and retap) also get crossover gaskets as they may be damaged (round metal gaskets $10 each).now to install the downpipe you will need 4-bolt flange gasket ($5) it goes where the downpipe connects to the cat.first remove the air filter box and the coolant res (just move it aside no need to drain). remove the coupling metal gasket which connects the downpipe to the turbo. then unbolt the downpipe from 4 bolt flange under the truck. with a little maneuvering it should come right out. the new one will go right in but will require moving it around until it goes back up to the turbo. put the gasket on and tighten the bolts go to the top and put on the coupling gasket(reuse) and your done . you may want to run the truck at this time and listen for rattles, if you hear any the downpipe is not installed correctly and may require some adjustment.this should take 60-90 minutes to install. also as i said in my last post this is a good time to install a 3 or 3.5" straight exhaust and a high flow air filter. good luck.

Thanks diesel doug! I is a mek-a-nickle ang-i-neer by trade and am glad to support this group when I can. Issue is, lots of guys WAY better than myself with these diesels and MANY have 'been there, done that' BEFORE my sorry butt. Thanks ALL, your technical expetise is fantastic!

Now, if I can only squeeze in this mod with all the other house/car/bike work (need I mention honey-do's?) I have cut out for me . . .
