: supertank & larger filler neck
acehi 10-08-2004, 06:07 AM Has anyone installed the filler neck kit with the 75 gallon supertank? I called supertanks and asked them and they told me they have tried to remove the part inside the stock filler neck and only had problems with the fuel spraying back on them because the venting is within the filler tube. They are not familiar with the transfer flow kit and do not know if it would work. I am sure there has got to be a way to make it work. Just curious if anyone has tried it and what the outcome was.
thanks, Jeff
Mackin 10-08-2004, 06:23 AM Removing the stock filler neck restriction is and will make it ten times worse.
I installed the TFI fast fill neck and it works quite well. Some lg Pumps can over whelm the vent although ,but all in all it is a real good set-up.

acehi 10-09-2004, 05:53 AM If the stock setup has the venting back up through the same line as the fill line. Where did you connect the vent hose that came with the kit on the 75 gallon tank? And which kit did you get? There is a $126 and a $87 kit listed on the website.
thanks, Jeff
Mackin 10-09-2004, 03:39 PM Not sure about the 75 gallon tank reference but I bought the retro fill neck kit. The price was $126 and worth it.

Didn't your supertank come with a vent hose and coupler to the factory fill neck?
Curious,
Michael
acehi 10-11-2004, 01:51 PM My supertank has two vent hoses on it. I have not installed the tank yet. It looks like one is used to go over a crossmember and plugs into another portion of the tank to allow it to fuel up. The other one I was guessing it went to the fill neck but wasn't sure because I was under the impression that the 01's did not have the external vent hose. The filler neck kit looked like it came with one as well. I just wanted to make sure I had everything ready before installing the tank. Would it be easier to change the fill neck with the tank removed or does it not matter?
Thanks, Jeff
02dmax 10-12-2004, 12:46 PM Jeff,
The 01/02s don't have an external vent but the supertank does.
You are correct the one (short) hose is to connect the two fuel
"towers" on the supertank. The longer hose is attached to the front of
the tank and goes up to a tee on the fill neck. You will need to
drill a hole in the factory unit, apply the gasket, attach the tee with
hose clamps and attach the hose.
The TFI fast fill does come with one as well and you replace the fill
head unit. It would be a much cleaner install IMHO. As for
being easier to install with the tank removed, probably. It will
be up on a hoist, the tank and fill hose will be out so it would be
easier than on your back http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
If you decide to go with the TFI let us know how it works out. Should be a slick setup for the 75gal.
Enjoy,
Michael
BIG DIPPER 10-12-2004, 02:06 PM Not sure I understand exactly how the Supertank is set up......BUT...if they add an external vent from the front of the tank to the back and it is in the 5/8 area, you could use that as your external vent. Just tee into it, make sure it is always gaining to the fill neck (no sags where fuel could lay) and add the fill neck from an LLY or from a 4500 series truck. I priced the LLY fill neck as I made my own fast fill kit and the LLY neck is only available with the 2" fill hose. You can buy the 4500 fill neck for about $30 bucks or so and would be well worth the investment in my opinion.

dieselfumes57 10-12-2004, 02:13 PM I wonder if you could just drill the vent holes out to get more air?
acehi 10-13-2004, 12:27 AM Thanks Big Dipper for that info. I just looked on GM parts direct and no luck finding it. You wouldn't happen to have a GM part # for that fill neck would you? I am a welder and machinist by trade and I was looking at hollowing the stock neck out and welding in a vent tube in the same manner as these aftermarket kits and seeing if it worked. But for $30 I would buy it. I am trying to keep the cost to a minimum so the "other half" doesn't get upset. She doesn't know how much I have spent on the tank, YET. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif But I know eventually she will. Oh, one more question. Does this LLY and/or 4500 version fill neck just bolt on to my truck or is there drilling/cutting involved? Thanks again everyone for the ideas. I will let you know how everything works out when I get it completed.
Jeff
BIG DIPPER 10-13-2004, 06:49 AM Here is the part number for the 4500.......15040338 It will bolt right in, only thing different is that it has the tube for the vent off the side.
The part number for the LLY is at home, but like I said, it comes with the fill tube as well and my price on that one was like 55 or so.....and you don't need it. I believe thay are the same....except for coming with the fill tube.
GMC-2002-Dmax 10-13-2004, 07:09 AM I thought about adding a vent hose to the top 26 gallon tank I have and connecting a external vent totally seperate from the internal hose of the fill neck.
I have an extra tank that I may experiment with........I am looking for the proper fittings to make it up and the high point in the tank that I can drill out......
Anyone have a PIC of the LLY filler neck they can post ????

acehi 10-14-2004, 12:01 AM I called the dealership today and they said that part # is not for the 4500. It shows up for the 02 - 04 duramax's, at least that is what he told me. He said he would have to special order it and it cost $55. I then looked that number up in GMpartsdirect and it is only $24.97 + $7 for shipping. I have it on order now. I am hoping I can get this thing installed on the weekend of the 30th. Will keep everyone posted once it is done.
Thanks again,
Jeff
BIG DIPPER 10-14-2004, 06:17 AM I sure hope that's the right one.......There were pictures on here and I found the same part number and it looks just like the one I had.
I had to buy the one for the LLY as it was the one at the parts place I deal with.....sucks that it comes with another fill tube, but someone might be able to use it...... I would still bet that the necks are actually the same, just a different part number....I'll let you know real soon.
Al in Mi 10-23-2004, 03:15 PM George, Jeff,
Any news yet??
thanks, Al
BIG DIPPER 10-23-2004, 03:31 PM Got the wrong one in.....still waiting on the one of the part number I posted.......
joey83854 12-30-2004, 07:37 PM big dipper, did you ever get the right filler neck for your pickup? i want to do the same thing . i went to my local dealer today and looked at a new truck to get the vin off of it also looked at a 4500 to get vin also went inside to get sa price.. 94.00 bucks !!!!!! no way am i paying that much too them, jerks!anyway was that part # correct from gm parts direct? if so i will be ordering from them i know this is an old post but i really need to do this thanks joe
BIG DIPPER 12-30-2004, 08:01 PM Yes, the part number I posted above is the correct one....GMPartsDirect has it and I would think your dealer could get it too, just compare to 32-33 or so through parts direct shipped. Mine works great, I can fill on the fast setting now and it will kick off before it ends up down the side of the truck. It's just that much nicer not to have to shop the small nozzle anymore.....
joey83854 12-30-2004, 08:31 PM thanks that's the answer i was looking for
joey83854 12-31-2004, 12:36 PM jholly, another ? where did you hook the vent line to? i have not looked around the fuel tank yet am assuming there is a vent hose there that i can tee off of again thanks for the response so quickly happy new year!! joe
