: truck studdered and died wont start
scott9x33 05-28-2007, 05:36 AM i have a 02 duramax , just got it 3 months ago and i love it !! ( got rid of a 04 cummins :D ) on my way home from the drags today , pulling trailer , truck studdered and died , checked for water in fuel filter , had about 1 ounce , but no fuel , towed it home , not sure where to start . has edge juice and k+n intake and a gibson exhaust. please help , i have to use my dads 1/2 ton ford to goto the races now !:( :(
srode 05-28-2007, 05:53 AM No fuel? Crack the bleader valve on the filter head unit, prime the filter with pump on head unit until you have a good solid flow. to make sure you have fuel, tighten bleader and try to start. Unplug the edge too. If that doesn't work, change the filter (if you haven't already).
scott9x33 05-28-2007, 05:58 AM thanks alot , i will try that , should i go ahead and replace the filter first ? i just bought it , ithe previous owner said it was changed not that long ago , i have put 5,000 miles on it since i bought it , it now has 24,500 miles on it .
srode 05-28-2007, 12:24 PM It wouldn't hurt, but I would just start with priming it to see if you can get it to start - filter change every 15,000 so it could be due.
mr. warehouse 05-28-2007, 04:36 PM I'm in the same boat...
Yesterday while driving home from the wekend my 05 LLY stuttered and died.
I pulled the plug off the primer pump and was able to hand pump fuel through, but nothing happened with the plug off and the key on / engine turning over.
I have 73,000 miles on it and a new fuel filter just over 5000 miles ago.
I'm thinking bad fuel pump or a bad wire???
woody33838 05-28-2007, 06:51 PM I too am having problems today. 03 Duramax with Edge. Fuel light came on (I know I should run it that low) and less than one mile later she died. Unplugged the edge. Added 10 gallons and started the priming process. I losened the bleed cap and pumped away to no avail. Installed a new filter and pumped away again with no success. Took new filter off and filled it to hopefully assist in priming attempt. Nothing. All gaskets are in place. Any suggestions? Bad primer pump? Clogged supply line?
Please offer your suggestions.

It take 100 pumps or more if you run it dry to get it to pump up, how long did you pump?
scott9x33 05-29-2007, 03:38 AM alright , unplugged the juice, replaced the fuel filter and primed it , lots of fuel out the bleeder , tried starting and nothing , i did not want to take a chance of burning up the starter and make matters worse , i even plugged the juice back in and still nothing ! help please !!
oddplanes 05-29-2007, 11:09 AM Check your injectors maybe?
Where in AK are you... Maybe I can help?
scott9x33 06-14-2007, 06:21 AM just posted a new one please check it out .
WanaDmxsub 06-14-2007, 11:54 PM Once you have fuel from the bleeder, close it, then pump until it gets hard.
scott9x33 06-15-2007, 01:28 AM after a few cranks on the starter , it would loose its prime again
bigd4me2 06-15-2007, 02:02 AM alright , unplugged the juice, replaced the fuel filter and primed it , lots of fuel out the bleeder , tried starting and nothing , i did not want to take a chance of burning up the starter and make matters worse , i even plugged the juice back in and still nothing ! help please !!
after you had fuel at the bleeder, after you closed it,did you pump it again till you couldn't push primer button, yes is correct answer.don't crank starter for more than 10 seconds, its hard on them.
and last advice for now, charge your batteries, all
lt. duty diesels are hard on them.higher voltage is also nicer on the starter.if you primed like i mentioned, check all your fuses in fuse pannels "don't remove them"with a test light.
bigd4me2 06-15-2007, 02:10 AM after a few cranks on the starter , it would loose its prime again
did it fire or sputter, like it would fire, but fuel presure goes away,so it won't start.sounds like an air leak.maybe you have a cracked filter houseing.
that will cause symptoms like you have, really sound like air sucking into the system though.
you don't have to leak fuel to suck in air.
ARbowhunter7 06-15-2007, 06:07 AM As weird as it is, I'm in the same boat too. I got fuel from some shady lookin Citgo and I'm sittin at a light, and she dies and won't crank up. Oh and did I mention this was in the middle of Atlanta rush hour traffic:eek: ! Anyway, got somebody to pull me into a Wal-Mart parking lot. Changed the filter, primed it good, and almost NEVER got it to start. It took forever. Had to turn it over, prime it, turn it over, prime it.....for about an HOUR! Then as I was about to repeat, I broke off the freakin' plastic bleed screw! (WTF Chevy?!) Had to mosey over to Lowe's with half a plastic bleed screw and match threads with a new screw. Got back and it still wouldn't crank. It took me about another 30 min. to get her runnin. I had no idea gettin em runnin after a plugged filter took so long!
Been everywhere 06-15-2007, 09:13 AM YEA I found out how much of a Censored these dmax's are to prime a couple of years back when I ran out, took me a good 25-30 minutes of priming and cranking, about ran the batts down. :banghead: Won't be running her dry any more, know eaxactly how far I can go when the light comes on. :driver:
Ditto on the cracked filter housing, sounds like it a fairly common problem. I doubt you'll be able to see the crack though, doesn't take much for it to suck air.
