Sometimes when I take a left turn at low RPM, the steering gets hard and the power steering pump whines for a split second. I took it to the dealer and they said it's normal for these trucks especially with oversize tires (I have 285's) and there's nothing they can do.

Is this true? I don't think it should do that, it makes my 50k truck feel like a 5 cent piece of sh*t even if it's for a second at a time.

Mine does it both ways. Maybe (in my case) you are turning the wheel faster than the pump can produce?

Interested in an answer, too.

My 05 has a problem at low speed, i thought it was my tranny whining but its the power steering pump. When I get off the highway slowing down I make a strong left hand turn and it makes all hell's of noise. I Pulled into my driveway today and turned the wheel left and right a few times and it was making noise, when I turned off the engine and poped the hood to chech the fluid it was blowing fluid out like it had alot of pressure. Spewed a bit and I checked and it is full ?????

Update:

Just got back from the dealer, and the tehc said that he has replaced (several) power steering pumps on the 05 due to the whine and hard to turn steering. My pump is on B/O for at least a week. Thats telling me that they are replacing alot of pumps.

Any of you guys running oversize tires? Apparently thats the first thing GM asks when the service tech phones it in.
