: 2006 Lly
davidjt 05-25-2007, 11:10 PM I see many posts on this board about the 2006 LBZ but not much about the 2006 LLY. I am very happy with mine, 13000 miles and not a single issue. I am running it bone stock. Previous truck was a 6.0 powersuck that gave me nothing but trouble. Does this mean everyone is happy with their LLY?
LeroyR 05-26-2007, 08:08 AM Pretty much. ;)
floriduramax1 05-26-2007, 09:15 AM Love it! Since getting EFI Live, LBZ, LLY...Don't really matter:D
09dave52 05-26-2007, 10:00 AM Us 2006 Lly owners don't get much fame and we don't seem to have as many problems as the others out there. Maybe that's a good thing. Just rolled over 60,000 miles earlier this week. First diesel I've owned,
lovin it!! :driver:

60000 miles?? Did you buy it new and when? I thought I was pouring it on at 16000 miles from October to now.
DieselDan172 05-26-2007, 10:19 AM I love mine!!!! I have gotten a high of 22 mpg with it, and I avg. around 16-18 all the time. No problems at all with 20,000 miles. Dyno'd at 379 RWHP & 744 RWTQ with a MBRP Exhaust & Predator set @120:D
When I bought the truck in March of 2006 there was a match truck sitting next to it but with the LBZ, the price difference was $2,000 just for the engine option. Why spend that when a $350 chip can put you over LBZ power:ro)
06DMAX 05-26-2007, 10:40 AM No complaints here. I love my 06 LLY!
CRASHNBURN 05-26-2007, 10:51 AM I would have not problem with buying a lly & saving some money. I would have bought one. Back when I was looking nobody was sure like they are now. The 2006 truck are great whether it is a LLY or a LBZ.:)

I use mine for work and usually travel at least 1,000 miles a week. I pull a 17' enclosed trailer sometimes but mostly run single. When I get a chance I hook on to a 28' 5th wheel take a few days off and drive some more. Bought it brand new.
WVHunter 05-26-2007, 05:28 PM I have had no problems with mine, 16000 miles, installed the Amsoil bypass 400 miles ago and the oil is still gold color.
SnowBandit 05-26-2007, 09:18 PM 35,600 miles on the clock... Racking up the miles is fun! Plenty of power and just a few minor problems...
rox383 05-28-2007, 12:08 PM just over 50,000 miles here, Not one single problem(course it is all stock). I am pleased. Yes I bought it new, I actually ordered it.
Dogface1SG 05-28-2007, 12:28 PM Bought it new in TX in Sept. of 2005. Love the truck. Only complaint has been my rear wheel bearing seals.
Lost one at 14,533 and trashed a rearend. They put a new one in, lost another at 99,XXX I replaced it. Then replaced them 3 more times between 99 and 120,000. Only way I could get them to hold was to buy the Chevy seals. They are a 2 piece seal. did that and 25,000 later they are not leaking.
makiwaraboy 05-28-2007, 02:18 PM 5000 mile no problem here and lovin it, so much fun to drive.
Will never ever buy a gas hoog again.

Alway's use genuine part's, there is a differance.............:thankyou2
Wingnusa 05-28-2007, 03:24 PM Just rolled over 30K stock miles and she's doing great. Just got back from a road trip and averaged 16.5 mpg. We're off on vacation this week and we'll see how it does pulling the 16K lb 5er. Last time it got 10.5mpg at 20K miles.:) I think the new Dually club plate on the front will help a lot......:D
veggie 05-28-2007, 06:14 PM You 2006 LLY guys, what's your fuel mileage empty?
I waited a few months and paid $1k more to get the LBZ.
Since apparently the only difference between the 2006 LLY and LBZ is tuning, I am curious to know if the LLY set up for less power gets better fuel mileage. If so I might ask to have my LBZ detuned!

2006 LBZ CCLB WT empty and stock gets 16-17 city and 20-22 hwy.
Dogface1SG 05-29-2007, 08:05 AM Alway's use genuine part's, there is a differance.............:thankyou2
I agree. Mostly engine parts. Body and drivetrain not so much. Usually the biggest difference is the $$$$$$
Usually an axle seal is an axle seal. There are only 2 or 3 manufacturers out there. No aftermarket seal is like the oem. If it were the same style seal I would never have paid twice as much. Dang near $50 a set
On things like alts, brakes and such that I can get a lifetime waranty on for less money than an oem, I always go lifetime.
I plan on 500,000 out of this truck.

Please do not turn this into another MPG thread. Your question has been answered in another thread. There is no major difference in LBZ and LLY mileage.
Not trying to be mean but there are SO MANY "WHAT'S YOUR MILEAGE" THREADS.
Drive it and love it or sell it and by a fuel economy car is my opinion
DMAXBOB 05-29-2007, 08:14 AM 56k miles here and runs great. Alternator went out at 50k but other than that no problems. Average mpg is 18-20 around town, minimal highway.
DMAXBOB
MAX BOWTIE 05-29-2007, 01:32 PM Best truck I have ever driven! I've got 41,000 on her in a year and a half. I have a light foot most of the time and average 21-22 on the highway and 18 around town. I would recommend this truck to anyone!
HER GMC 05-30-2007, 10:11 AM currently at 16K - bought brand new - nothing major so far!
1lbz4me 05-30-2007, 11:14 AM I was looking for the then new LBZ when I joined this forum but ended up buying an LLY so I should be 1LLY4me.
The LLY is at about 17,000 now and the only issue I had was with the EGR at 10,000 miles. I reset the CEL several times but it went away after 1500 miles or so and has not come on since. Very happy with the truck and its performance.
I am still curious if the LLY is really less power than the LBZ or whether it was production timimg on calibration data to claim the 360hp from the 310 hp specified. I see it two ways. If the power is less than the LBZ then the LLY has some durability margin with the Allison that the LBZ does not ;) and if it is the same power then we got a deal over the LBZ:).
udflyer98 05-30-2007, 12:01 PM 33,500 trouble free miles so far with my LLY. It's my first diesel and I can't imagine going back to a gasser. It gets better mileage than my old 1/2 ton Silverado I traded for this to boot.
mgraveman 05-31-2007, 09:30 AM It's interesting - I se a lot of people here that didn't do any upgrades to the truck.
I wonder if the people that bought these trucks bought them for the price, and don't care about the power. I know I never missed it.
No problems here. 21k miles.
Bowyer 05-31-2007, 12:03 PM 12,250 here and still breaking it in. Had a minor CEL + MAP/MAF sensor problem this past winter (MN=snow/cold). I really like the truck and the entire family loves the ride. Good MPG as well. Still stock!
Smokin06LLY 05-31-2007, 01:28 PM I love this truck - few issues, but not performance related. I bought it becasue of the good deal I worked and it was the color I wanted.
Started out getting 13 mpg and have worked up to 18 avg empty w/10,000 miles now. big jump went from 15/16 avg to 18 once spring arrived. Guessing it was end of winter fuel.
I came out of a 6.0 gasser and the dmax has been worth every penny. Towed my 33 ft fifth wheel a couple weeks ago and was able to maintain 65/70 up hills - I love it.
I do want to play a little though after I rebuild the rainy day fund.
Narcah 06-04-2007, 07:44 PM I pull horse trailers quite regularly, have over 23k miles in less than a year.
CD player won't eject CD's.
Headliner is falling down.
Bumper mounting bar thingy busted.
Dash gauges died, twice.
OEM tires are bald (at 23k miles!?!)
Wiper rubber fell apart already.
A couple recalls I have to waste my time having done.
Refuses to ever ever get more than 16 mpg empty, light footed. Gets about the same fully loaded over Donner / Grapvine with 10k lbs.
Bottom line: build quality is so so, drivetrain is awesome.
Colorado Christian 06-05-2007, 12:49 PM Really like my LLY. I'm running stock but it pulls a trailer like a monster. I get pretty good Mileage also (16-20). Only complaint I have is the stupid sqeeky belt GM cannot seem to fix.
mgraveman 06-05-2007, 02:01 PM have they tried? My dealer tells me that's not a squeak. They also say my door shuts normally. It's supposed to be hard to close.
Damn Yankee 06-05-2007, 04:27 PM 34,000+, purchased Sept 06'. Had the glow plug flash done, and ISS lubed many times, and finally replaced. Radiator replaced (no fault of GM), Turbo replaced because the dealer thought the intercooler oil leak was a bad turbo seal, and not the hose clamp/pvc re-route. Disappointed with MPG until ~30k, now I'm getting 18-19 empty. All stock !
Narcah 06-05-2007, 06:45 PM 34,000+, ... Disappointed with MPG until ~30k, now I'm getting 18-19 empty. All stock !
Yes! Hope!
Is that city or highway?

27300 miles no problems so far. only towed a few times never real heavy but mpg stunk (9 +/- .5) now my empty avg 16-17.5
mattdok 06-15-2007, 12:24 AM I have an 06 LLY and I love it ! I have 10,000 miles on it and have had the triple dog set on extreme since day 1 with no problems so far . If I can manage to keep my foot out of it long enough to check my mileage its been about 16-17 mpg around town and 19-20 hwy. Its a lot different from my 01
ChevyWolf 06-15-2007, 11:58 AM I have about 22,000 miles so far. Only Issue was the glowplug recall.
No other issues. Runs flawless. Avg. MPG about 19 to 20.
Colorado Christian 08-01-2007, 12:14 PM Dealer finally fixed the sqeeky belt! Hope it is a long term fix.
dbach 08-01-2007, 11:00 PM '06 LLY here. Love the truck, mileage is about 16 or 17 empty, 8.5 to 7.5 pulling 14,000 fiver (65 to 70mph).
Runs great, love the Allison. I'd like to see better mileage. Maybe I should keep my foot out of it?
LUV 2 HUNT 08-14-2007, 11:18 PM I have an 05 Duramax LLY but just put the juice with attitude in last month. I haven't had any problems but with the default setting of 1350 EGT alarm, while pulling a 24 ft trav. trailer (6K lbs), I had to go 45 to 50 mph up hill in setting 1 or 2 while it was 2K or less RPMs. I am concerned with some of the heating issues I'm reading about the LLY models. Am I heading for problems with the Juice with attitude on this truck?
I called the Edge company and spoke with a support tech. He said the 05 duramax's have heating issues and have had problems with the Edge products. He recommended upgrading the stock exhaust to 4 or 5 inches, and also some after market cooling products as well as a fuel pressure release valve (shim kit). Is this necessary?
Any of your help will be greatly appreciated!!!!
