I recently bought a GMC 2500 HD w/duramax LLY. I've got a buddy with the same truck who says he has been told by a couple of diesel mechanics that it's a good idea to mix in a quart of two stroke oil with evey other tankful of fuel. Something about the fuel being too pure nowdays.

Any validity to this?

i run dexron trans fluid or two stroke oil in all my diesels, have 4 on farm . also run it every once in awhile in gas burners, low sulfur diesel and unleaded gas has no lubrication oil lubs the injectors, and lubs in tank fuel pumps on gas burners. have 87 silverado 350 two gas tanks, almost 200,000 miles still original fuel pumps in tanks. i don't know about new diesels. i haven't put any in my LLY d/max, maby new ones have compensated for low sulfer. have a 4/53 dietroit on a generator for checken houses, if i don't put auto trans fluid in it will have stuck injector about once a year. but it doesn't run much, sets mostly, waiting for electric to go off

The problem with a couple of "diesel mechanics" is that there are all sorts of folks who work on all manor of diesel engines. Some of the old timers talk about things that worked on older designs and systems.

Your Bosch common rail fuel injection system is, for the most part, an entirely different animal. The lack of lubrication issue is causing some problems (which GM isn't admitting at this point) but I think if I were you , I'd stick to something GM will sanction as an additive. The dealers are being instructed to perform a really simplified test to determine fuel quality and deny warranty work if it fails that test. One of our members, who happens to be an expert on such matters, had his dealer give him grief over BP diesel supreme not meeting that spec. Last I saw, it was getting ugly before the dealer and regional tech rep relented.

If you put something in the fuel that's not approved, have any problems and get hit with the "bad fuel" excuse, you won't have a lot of options.

Might be something to think about...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Pull out your diesle supplement that came with the truck and read what they say about transmission fluid. You might
change your mind.
