I have used the "Search" button and really haven't found anything that really helps. Maybe people are calling it something else. Here it is. I have started to notice a "clunking" sound coming from the stearing system while the truck is moving. It seems to happen when the wheels are slightly turned or allot turned. It almost sounds like it is in the cab area but not necessarly. You can almost feel something loose while holding the wheel. It was happening with the stock wheels and the H2 wheels. It may be nothing but I would like to know if someone else has this. Is this common or something that the dealer needs to see? Is it something I can fix? I would rather take a butt cutting than take it back.
Thank You,

Your intermediate steering shaft needs to be greased. It happens to them all the time. It is easy to do but you have to get the lube kit from gm. It will only take you about 20 minutes.

I had two I.S. replaced and it didn't correct the problem, it turned out to be the lower steering shaft bearing.

There is a bulletin for the I-shaft clunk that has been revised about 10 times....last I heard there was a new shaft again.

:exactly:The "thumping" noise you hear while turning is the lack of lubrication at the end of the steering shaft. I've seen lots of shafts replaced and greased, but there is a good chance it will come back, eventually. It was a flaw in design.
The good news is that it won't cause anything bad to happen, just makes an annoying sound. I had mine greased 10,000 miles ago and so far so good. My suburban had it done the first year I had it, and it started doing it again about 70,000 miles later. This time I'll just live with it.
I think it's your intermediate steering shaft as well. I have a new shaft from GM that fixed it. I have H2 rims as well but was sure to take them off before taking it to the dealer. The first thing they would tell you is it is the tires even though it's 99.9% chance it it not.
I'm surprised that since your truck is 07 it doesn't have a new shaft but it's most likely when it was built.
Good luck.

Thank yo for the comments. That make me feel allot better. Is there any noticible difference between the old and the updated shafts? I would like to take a look to see which one I have. If it is the older style one, I would take it back in to get updated. With it being an 07 I would think it would already have the updated version. If it is I will grease it up and let it ride. thank you in advance.

Mine's an 07 Classic with about 1400 miles on it and it started clunking like crazy already. My other 2 gassers clunked but not as bad or as soon as this one. Pretty surprised at it.
