: The coolest headlamps ever!

I just finished my install of the headlamps from Autodynamic.com with a illuminated ring (halo), around each headlamp not unlike BMW has. The quality is good, much heavier than the original. It does not have an adjustment for side-to-side, but the alignment seemed fine.

The Halo's are illuminated by separate LED's at the bottom of the Halo that are tied in to the amber running lights.

The effect is very neat although the Halo's are difficult to see with the lights on. It is almost a quick replacement except you need a disconnect plug (I used a two wire trailer harness from Autozone). I further needed to modify mine because the base of my HID bulb was 1.5mm larger, nothing my die grinder couldn't fix. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif The final effect is a very controlled light beam. I couldn't take a decent picture with the lights on because the HID is too overwelming for my camera.

The cost is $289.95 for the pair. I may need to switch to white turn signal covers since the new headlamps don't have the amber reflectors.

Too cool!!! Which ones are they? On the website it shows two different sets that are the same price and have the same description but have different part numbers? Thanks

EDIT. Never mind. I see now that one is a projector and one isn't. Did the bulbs come with them?Edited by: jderk

Yes, the bulbs are included! You will only need to buy the trailer wire connectors for the Halo's and they are only $4 for two.

Man that looks awsome.

So how is the light output on the HID's? Better than the stock low beams (I assume so).

What about the high beams? As good as the stock high beams?

Just to make sure I understand you correctly, this kit includes the HID bulbs, lenses, and everything except the disconnects you mentioned.

I assume the disconnects are to tie in the angel eyes with the factory parking lamps...is this correct?

Nothing beats HID, period. I even use them on my motorcycles. I rarely even use my high beams since the illumination is so good. The projector-style low beam reflectors work much better for HID beacuse they have a sharper cut-off at the top avoiding blinding oncoming drivers. The projector lens also works better at avoiding hot spots of the beam pattern. As for the high beams, the new reflector works as well, if not better than OEM regarding a nice focused pattern, but the aim is a little lower than I would prefer. I haven't had a chance to look if I can modify the aiming. The Halo's are just for show of course, but I wish they were brighter like BMW has.

And yes, you wire them to your parking brakes. Edited by: Cracker Jack

So were the HID bulbs included with the kit? I am just kinda confused because you said you had to modify the lenses to fit "your" HID bulb....

What is the manufacturer of the lenses? Do you also have a part # of the ones you bought?

Wire them to the parking brake?? do you mean parking lights?

Sorry for all the questions.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

I'm sorry I made my post confusing DuckhunterInTN, maybe this will answer your questions.

The HID lamps were installed in my truck months ago. I just installed the projector headlamps last week. The new headlamp assembly comes with two Sylvania 9005 bulbs which unfortunately are 1.5mm too small for my HID base. Therefore, I used the die grinder to enlarge the metal casting on the projector portion as seen in the picture. Be careful not to make it too large or the bulb will vibrate.

You may be able to buy HID bulbs that match the 9005 base and no modification will be required or just use the standard bulbs that come with it.

The headlamp assembly I think is made in china, but the build quality is very good. I ordered them on-line from Autodynamic.com and the description is:

As far as wiring the HALO part, yes they are wired to the parking lights not the brake as shown with the connector I used, Do Not wire without a disconnect method.

Thanks, that clears everything up for me.

One last question. Do you believe the light pattern with the new lenses is better than the stock lenses? Did you notice an improvement based on changing the lenses? I know you gained a big improvement with the HID upgrade, but I was wondering if it would still be a worthwhile upgrade if I did not change to HID bulbs.

I looked for the receipt for the HID's to see where I bought them and couldn't find it. I did order them via the internet and if you did a search, you will find many sites that offer them for your truck. The ballasts are made by Sylvania, probably the bulbs too. I chose the 6000K color (whiter), because they have the greatest output and I live in the mountains where the roads are poorly illuminated.

As for the light pattern, the beam is more uniform, ie, without hotspots but there is a very sharp cut-off at the top of the beam which some will find objectional. It is very good when you have HID bulbs due to their brightness not blinding oncomming traffic. The pattern is very similar to the beam of BMW's with projector headlamps.

As for the worth the upgrade cost without the HID? Hey, these headlamps look cool! Even my wife says the truck looks better. I ordered the corner lights with the clear lenses to finish the "look". So if you want your truck to look a little different, go for it. I will highly recommend the HID upgrade though.
